Premo is the type of producer where I really don't want much experimentation

His core sound is so iconic and raw that I prefer his beats like RocMarkable over Glory Hole... But I also like when Roc does weird flows like this

Glad we got this anyways, there's definitely some good shyt on here

I agree but I also think roc ain’t gonna let you produce a project for him without at least one weird beat lol

I know people might not fukk with Glory Hole (:dame:) but it's so dope to me :mjlol:
Yeah his flow is impeccable and it has a nice old school energy to it.

The beats feel inspired by Roc's regular sound in a way, they're more laidback and blaxploitation sounding than usual. Preme wouldn't give Roc Nas type beats, and Roc wouldn't choose them, so I don't think it gives much of an insight to what the Nas record will sound like.

I like this though, I think it'll have replay value for me because I like Roc but a lot of his albums blend together. This has a distinct sound that still fits him.

Just finished the first listen - pretty good although I wish it had more songs as some have said. Didn’t like Armani Section when it dropped and I still don’t like it now but everything after that is pretty dope as it has the Primo Sound I tapped in for (bar Glory Hole :dame:). Think I like this more than Skeleton Key tbh

I’m feelin it, it’s a quick easy listen. Guess I’m the only one that likes prayer hands haha. Only joint I could see my self skipping in the future is travel fox. Glory hole, rocmarkable and execution style will get heavy play from me, I like when primo moves out of his comfort zone. The cover gives you an idea of what the ep sounds like, blaxploitation/pimpin/shyt talkin

It's worth noting that I don't want to hear most rappers over the type of beats Roc typically picks or produces. Roc's style lends itself to a certain type of sound which often means a beat that doesn't have a lot of space to breath, no room for a hook/chorus, and a shorter run time. I like this Prayer Hands joint but no...I wouldn't want to hear Nas on that beat. And while I certainly agree Premo fell off THIS is not an example of that, nor reason to doubt the Nas album could be great. Different styles, different sonics.

That’s not it, sample clearances are a mf today. Primo cones from an era that you didn’t have to clear everything. Even on later gang starr releases: he was getting away with not clearing everything. All of that stopped with DJ Quik getting sued for sampling a foreign record (as if he didn’t learn from Monch). Now you can’t even scratch vocals of some artist or their label will sue. Hip hop is a full time business now. That’s why hip hop as a whole sucks. Back then, you could sample and pay out like 30-40% in royalties of most songs. Now it’s 50% off the top just do a piano stab. This is the reason we hear so much repetitive 2 finger trap melodies.

It would be impossible to make a Public Enemy albums like Nation of millions and FOABP today. Each SONG with 10+ samples would cost almost $600k to clear.
Then it's time to get creative with sampling...assemble a team of musicians (bass, keys, strings, horns, drums) and replay the chops - the problem is most of the older producers don't want to utilise today's technology to their advantage! :manny:

They forget the drum machines and samplers were the DAWs of their days compared to those made music from the decades before the 80s.
