The West is famous for that funk and those old Detox sessions with Battlecat and co just freestyling in a lab and everyone was throwing their piece in with some improv beats kicking was pure excellence. The spirit of Jazz resurrected. Quik should think Blue Ocean and carve out a whole new lane, a brand new niche like Jazz Hop because unlike these new jacks on soundcloud he's actually got real clout and is time served in the game.

Imagine an instrumental genre of hip hop based vibing music. Its just what the world needs at this moment. Ayo Quik, stick to producing! Holla at me, mayne, I've got the vision and already seen it. All you got to do is bring the soundtrack...

Jazz-Hop. No rapping, all instrumentals. :wow:

How many hits is he behind? How many legendary labels? How many major stars? :dahell:

If skills sold, truth be told perhaps… But even that doesn’t apply here :russell:

In Quik's case, I think it definitely applies.
Mentored by legendary producers.
Making beats with Battlecat on MPC's and Sp-1200, using legendary old gear like the Roland D-50.
Combining session work, his own musicianship and sampling into a really dope soup.
Quik as a producer is really top tier, his problem IMO is that that top tier talent wasn't being utilized
by people who should've been utilizing it, leaving Dj Quik more regional than his talents should warrant.

There's also the reality of being a really, REALLY good engineer.

This already exists IMO.
It's been curated on the westcoast by labels like Brainfeeder.

Guys Dam-Funk, Flying Lotus, etc. put on whole sets with just beats.
I've seen both live and the shyt they do is :blessed:

Quik should've BEEN linked up with all of the artists on the West Coast engaging in
beat culture but for some reason, he never did. :snoop:

If he was a better producer, he would've made stars out of the artists he worked with.

We didn't know who a Snoop Dogg was until we heard him on songs with Dre. Dre was in NWA. Eminem was an underground MC before Dre. Yeah, 50 had buzz as did Em before linking with Dre, but Dre elevated them far beyond where either would've been without him.

Kendrick is the only one who who really didn't benefit from Dre. He already had his own style, sound, and vibe without a Dre and none of the songs we know him for were produced by Dre.
thats not true. you cant polish shyt and present it as gold. timbo tried it with magoo how that work? preemo tried it with group home? how that work?

the talent has to be there and its luck involved with this. dre talented quik talented but if you dont get lucky and get access to talent you cant reach your full potential.

yea no one knew snoop until he worked woth dre but he was a talented muhfukka and couple that with dre genius dre made him a star but he already had star potential.

you cant make anyone a star. no matter how talented of a producer you are. you have to have something to work with.
