Do we have any engineers here?

If your job will pay for the pre-requisites, do that first, then worry about the engineering specific classes and what discipline you want to go into (this includes scholarships and aid you're eligible for). I do know that Purdue helps set up adult students who are in their engineering school with jobs so they can work and go to school there. And an engineering degree from Purdue is worth it's weight in gold, ESPECIALLY if it's mechanical/electrical/computer science.
I’m a debt collector
Online engineering programs often incorporate lab experiences in several ways to ensure students gain practical skills. Here are some common methods:

### 1. **Virtual Labs**
- **Simulations**: Students use software to simulate experiments and engineering processes, allowing them to manipulate variables and see outcomes in a virtual environment.
- **Remote Access**: Some programs provide access to physical lab equipment through remote-controlled systems, enabling students to conduct experiments from afar.

### 2. **Hands-On Kits**
- **Lab Kits**: Universities may send students physical lab kits with necessary materials and equipment to perform experiments at home or in local settings.
- **Projects**: Students might work on projects that require building or testing prototypes using the materials provided in these kits.

### 3. **Local Partnerships**
- **Community Colleges or Labs**: Some programs collaborate with local institutions or labs where students can complete required hands-on components.
- **Internships**: Practical experience through internships or cooperative education programs can also fulfill lab requirements.

### 4. **Hybrid Models**
- **On-Campus Sessions**: Some online programs require occasional on-campus attendance for intensive lab sessions or workshops.
- **Blended Learning**: A combination of online coursework and in-person labs to enhance the learning experience.

### 5. **Collaborative Tools**
- **Online Collaboration**: Students can work in teams using digital tools to share data, analyze results, and present findings, mimicking collaborative lab environments.

These methods help ensure that online students receive a comprehensive education that includes practical, hands-on experience essential for engineering disciplines.

I’ll see if Purdue wants to help me. I found this

Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering | ASU Online,

Civil and electrical are in high demand, with civil being less the less intense of the two.
Mechanical gives you the most flexibility, but isnt in as high demand.
I’m really interested in EE

What you need to do is go to a school that has the engineering discipline you want and ask LOTS of questions. Make a list.
Just spoke with a recruiter, they will mail me a kit for the labs. I plan to start next spring

That’s my current option for getting an Electrical Engineering degree online. That’s excluding financial help, grants and etc.

Edit:
Also this is now the college I’m interested in

Should now cost in the mid $50k range

The degree is worth it, the debt isn't. You can find find a cheaper program than that. There are some programs (instate) that will only cost around 50K
Online degree programs are often cheaper too.

Online??? Brick & motor for hands on experience.
Then hybrid it out. Freshman classes are usually basic highschool courses anyway same classes for every degree. Not degree specific
Save money going online or to a community college for your first two years then finish the last two at the real deal. when you are taking mostly classes related to your specific major.

It really depends how old you’ll be when you finish.

I paid for my EE degree out of pocket. It took longer but I won’t be 50 years old with college debt. I’ve also been in a Software Engineering career for nearly 10 years so I can leverage the EE degree to enter another specialization showing a history of related professional experience. I did it out of interest but also knowing I can be working at 60-70 in EE easier than Software Engineering should it come to that.

Being mid 40’s with a fresh new $100k debt while going for a competitive entry level role may be trying to make too late of a comeback.

In today’s job market you will be competing with entry-level people who got their degree in their early 20’s.

I always encourage people to go to school, but I don’t encourage being older with debt. At some point, you don’t have the whole world in front of you anymore and you’re not young. Instead of potentially putting that money into the stock market it goes to paying late-life debt on top of any medical fees during 50’s and 60’s.

If possible go to Junior College first.
