He didn't get the tattoo until later. He saw LL's, admired it, said if I was into tats, I'd get something like that. The beef is over a line. "Yo Reggie where the squad at, Meth where the Gods at, yo L, is that a mic on your arm, let me borrow that." L gets offended and makes a verse going at Bis. Then L told Bis to take out that line, which Bis did, and still kept his verse dissing him.

The irony is that L told Bis that if he took that line out, no one would know he was going at him, but everyone instantly knew L was dissing Bis even before the backstory broke LOL.
You're right the tatt was after but L says bis told him about it before the track and L said no and then bis went and put the line on the track.

LL Cool J tells "Drink Champs" he pitched Canibus with a new song before their beef boiled over

I agree with the idea that Bis lost to the machine, not to LL's diss record. Talked all crazy about LL then made a bunch of weird songs. Still "The Ripper Strikes Back" can't touch "2nd Round KO". LL's "4,3,2,1" verse for Canibus is harder than "The Ripper" it just doesn't go with that beat

"What's Clef" is hotter than "The Ripper Strikes Back"

"Back Where I Belong" is hotter than "The Ripper Strikes Back"

Whats this massive machine that got LL to win the battle?

Cannibus shyt was on rap city every fukking day

I heard the LL shyt maybe twice

Was the LL shyt pushed as a single?

Folks just aint expect LL to come like that so it hyped the song a little bit, same with ether folks counted Nas out so it added a lil extra to it

2nd round knockout was on bet everyday cannibus was bodying everything nobody thought LL was coming like that

The year 3030
Even though he fukked up commercially it was always assumed he was a serious battle rapper

Then the notebook happened and he lost that too...

He needed to take on some better advice.. But from what I've always seen, read and heard he always came across as a bit of an arrogant azzhole...

There's even a clip out there when Primo gets asked if there is anyone he struggled to get on with in the studio and his response was Canibus...

Look at all the people Primo has worked with.... And the first person he thought of was Canibus.,

Speaks volumes...

gonna shoot him some bail over being a battle rapper...battling rapping in 2010's is vastly different from what it was in the 90's

Should he adapted better? Of course...but I don't deny he was/is a serious battle rapper...just from a different era's view of battle rapping.

LL won.

Not because of popularity. Jay was way more popular when he was going at Nas, and he lost, lol.

We all gave 'Bis props for his record back then, it was funny, but his career was effectively over after this beef. LL went on to sell more records than he was previously. Dude went double platinum off the back of this "beef". Then he dropped the GOAT album, went platinum again and had the #1 album in the country.

Canibus was try'na book shows in NYC at the time, and couldn't get anyone to show up, lol. DJ Riz was deejaying for him at the time, and he said they couldn't get anyone to pay $25 at small venues to see him. His career was basically over after the LL situation. LL went on to sell more records and do more movies, and TV shows. You win battles by shutting people down, or saying things in battles that are true and cause the other MC to change course. Canibus didn't have the resume to diss a legend. LL was a battle-tested rapper already and knew how to approach it because he's been in other battles with actual legends before. All that battle did, was make him a stronger artist and energize him for a few more albums.

Wyclef said LL won too, lol. And that it was a "bad move" to go at L. Only legends can battle legends. You can't be a rookie and think you're going to diss a legend and it's going to work out. That year for Canibus was definitely a "grand opening, grand closing" situation for him. He was over after that.

LL came hard as hell, I fukked all his other little shots as well.

Son spat on the corpse of his career with this one.

That track is embarrassing. So many ridiculous lies its hilarious. LL and wyclef set bis up? Bis being from Canada? Give me a break. Canibus' response Rip the Jacker is the most disrespectful diss track of all time. He goes after LL's sexuality, his mom, his dad and his wife. Murders him on his own beat. Rip the Jacker is the best diss out of all of them

"I'm hardcore, cum shot right in your wife's face
You soft porn, you held hands on the first date
See when you was making records like "I Need Love"
Your homie Cornell was givin' it to you up the butt
Plus I heard Simone was the high school slut
And she learned how to fukk before she knew how to cuss
nikka you're dead

Nobody thought what LL did was respectable

basically tried to bury the up and comer that made him feel insecure

Meth and Red already spoke on how before a verse was even laid the energy was all bad with LL towards Canibus from the jump.

LL wanted a problem and went on the offensive as soon as he heard the slightest thing that could be misconstrued as a diss.

and that fake, underhanded, ass truce he had on stage with Canibus should tell you about LL's character and how much Canibus fukked with him mentally on some MC shyt.

Even after all those years, LL still trying to shyt on dude. Nikka's can say Canibus was never threat but LL definitely didnt feel that way.

LL didnt bury Canibus

A wack debut did and that whole "I got 30 pages of rhymes in this muthafukka" incident strapped dynamite to his corpse. The 2n hand embarassment from that had me

LL didn't like or understand the fact that canibus said he wanted to get the same tattoo as him.
it was a bad first impression.
I've had ppl tell me that they wanted to get the same tattoo as me as well, and I was kinda put off by it
tattoos are personal and have meaning.
so LL probably thought he was corny off the jump.

then when he heard the song, the nikka canibus was talkin about his tattoo again lmao
so he was like nah dis nikka is funny style, let me check him.

a complete overreaction imo, cause he coulda sent a little shot back if he felt it was necessary but he went ape shyt on the entire verse Lmao

not necessary at all in my opinion.

Canibus is one of the first victims of the internet, because if it wasn't for forums and chat rooms, he probably woulda let it go.

but because he's a computer nerd and ppl like us were in there talkin about how badly he got killed, he felt to had to respond

I might have said this before on here but it just bothers me it didn’t happen.

Just imagine how dope the video would have been if LL showed his tat on his arm to Canibus and he pulled it off with special effects and started his verse.

:whoo:

LL would have still been a legend but even respected more by “Passing the torch” to a young hitter or tried to at least till Canibus album dropped.

:mjcry:

2nd Round K.O. is one of those songs that sounded hot at the time but looking back was just not that hard hitting. A bunch of okay jabs rapped well but ironically no knockout. LL's diss is a little too long but he did have some good rebuttals at least. So both songs have good lines and some cringe lines which kinda makes the battle a tie. LL obviously won the war tho. It is kinda hard not to judge the battle in the context of the disappointment of Canibus career too.
