Plenty of bars are popping and I'm noticing malls kind of make a comeback. It does make me curious whether you could really get away with opening a true social hangout today, beyond those options. I used to love going to Pizza Hut as a kid because they had all the game tables and arcade stuff. Whenever I went there would be someone in there hanging out, or having fun while waiting on a pizza. One time I was in there just watching Godfather 2 on a small tv as a kid, playing pool lmao.

Like a place that serves pizza, hamburgers, coffee, etc while also having pool tables, a mini arcade, ping pong, ice hockey, lounge area, etc. I feel like that type of place would do gangbusters, especially inside or outside a mall.

I don't get it. Don't most neighborhoods have public parks? Don't these places exist solely for citizens to loiter at?

Similarly, don't most cities have libraries? Don't they also exist to loiter at?

Seems like much ado about nothing.

Yes. But most parks are empty and folks are not socializing in circles. They get their exercise in and bounce. :yeshrug:

Only benefit of where I live are the third places. There’s a dope park and walking trail that goes for miles.

Having something scenic like that is a stress reliever

I recently joined a socialist organization in my area out of a lack of any existing organizations or structure, and I messaged them on Instagram and I didn’t even get an answer. shyt makes me not even want to work with them. :martin:

In the Heights I had a bar I went to called North End Food Hall. High ceilings, cheap drinks, music wasn't too loud. It didn't have that dive bar or pretentious cocktail bar vibe.

There was a solid cafe nearby, but too many spots try to be cafes and restaurants at the same time which fukks up the mood.

I don't see much difference.

I see families out eating at restaurants and chilling at the parks and beaches.

I do cars and coffee meets and hang out at the racetrack.

Covid made us more cautious...and cacs are going OD with the mass shootings again...so there's that.

Quick question. What exactly do you do in a socialist organization? Do yall just gather and use your paychecks to give to charity?

Or is it like a book club where yall read marx and lennin while crisscross-appleSauce in a reading circle? :pachaha:

well, I work with a trade Union and I was trying to make inroads here. I have contacts in other cities, but my city has been dead for a very long time…last time I ever organized when I was like 18/19.

As for what they do, they have mutual aid chapters that help others, run food and school supply fundraisers, protest local and national things, stuff like that. I’m not really one for protesting and chanting slogans, and considering I’m on probation I really don’t want things to go south and that be the end of my chapter :pachaha:

After watching that video, I haven't had a "3rd place" since my high school yrs when we'd all walk around the corner to the homie's house and either play video games when it was too cold outside, or play hoops in the driveway in the spring/summer

What the guy in the video is really saying those places aren’t located in the average neighborhood for people to access without needing a car, which in a way is I unnatural to an extent because many people spend most of their life driving and sitting down instead of walking and running, basically tossing their own legs aside.
