It hasn't existed in earnest. Authoritarians just use the branding and nationalize everything while killing anyone that tries to make unions and elevate worker power.

Closest thing to actual socialism is cuba which does relatively well considering the embargo.

Eventually, things will get so bad economically for the majority of people, no one is going to listen to anyone preaching to keep the status quo. So I predict some young charismatic Gen Z or Gen Alpha will lead the country into either socialism or communism. It's inevitable. The rich elites have already amassed so much wealth, and there are still so many wealth simps protecting them, that things are going to get a lot worse.

I'd love for someone to start a campaign posting billboards and internet ads, showing how Doctors, Lawyers, Dentists, and small business owners' income is closer to those of the homeless than America's top 10%. They are the ones holding the country back from reasonable economic change.
