That's Doc right to leave Boston for greener pastures. I'm pretty sure Simmons

had 2 leave another news organization for greener pastures aka ESPN.

:rudy:

He was under contract he actually doesnt have that right...Maybe all the info like Doc said hasnt come out but on the surface he looks like he was trying to force his way out after realizing the trade was going to happen...

I thought Boston was trying to dump Rivers because he was making stupid money. Weren't they saying it didn't make sense for him to be getting paid what he was in the middle of a rebuilding situation?

He saw the writing on the wall. Changed his tune on being willing to go through a rebuild. Forced his hand to get his way out after he agreed to a 5 year extension and publically acknowledged he would have to go through a rebuild at some point, but didn't care cause "I'm a Celtic."Not only that, but DOC was the one that told the Clippers not to trade Bledsoe to the Celtics.

Ok....but does any of this change the fact that he didn't fulfill his contractual obligations to the Celts?

They would have paid Doc to stay, they wanted him to stay.

At the end of the deal, it's a benefit to save some money, but it wasn't like they were "OMG, we're not paying a coach 7 million a year to be on a rebuilding team, we HAVE to trade him!!!"

They wanted to keep him, and if Doc wanted to stay he would have.

Then doc should have just made that clear instead of waffling back and forth while under contract stating "its time to move on"....I think that might have had something to do with it...

What he says and how he says it doesn't change what or the reason he did what he did.

He signed a contract, bro. Made it sound like he was there for the long haul.

He quit. Not to retire, but to go to an easier job.

No other way to slice it unless there was some behind the scenes riff that forced him out.

So what do y'all call it when a team fires a coach under contract? Are they quitters or are they trying to do something that helps themselves?

Aren't the Celtics in rebuilding mide? Why would anybody be mad at an accomplished coach for not wanting to go through that? So he can lose games and get fired?

Doc should have been fired years previously but the Celts stuck with him

Doc rivers is just Alvin gentry with talent

Jerry Sloan stuck by Utah

and that's what a lot of Boston sportswriters have been saying Ainge's reasoning has been. Hell, Simmons said it on his podcast just last week with Rusillo that this is what Boston should do. Which is why I find it weird that he's butthurt over a HC he wanted gone prior to the Big 3 being there

Nothing different than Larry Brown, Cal, Parcells, etc. have done

:what::stopitslime: this made sense when you typed it?

Boston wouldn't have stuck with him after two seasons below 40 wins..so that loyalty shyt is out the window.

I dont agree with supporting a sports team being equal to supporting a whole city

like that "we're all patriots fans now" stuff after the bombing

I understand Simmons criticizing it from a sports perspective but bringing in the bombing and acting like it is a huge betrayal in that sense is ridiculous
