Meh. My problem with Adele is she is not necessarily "raw talent". Adele is literally a product of a "hit factory", the BRIT School of Performing Arts. Hence why she sounds like: Marsha Ambrosois, Leona Lewis, Jessie J, Amy Winehouse...they all sound like they had the same vocal coaches because they did. A school created by the government and funded by the British record industry, lol. They were manufactured at a school teaching them how to sing like "Black Americans". And we eat that shyt up every.damn.time , comparing our naturally gifted Black people against robotic, mediocre whites who were TRAINED to sound like US.:mjlol:

Yooooo...is this true? :ohhh:

If it is, then music journalism is truly dead and every black persons in the music industry is a c00n and a slave

Yes she's a great singer but if she was black would she still sell as much ????

I'm just asking because of these comments got me thinking
:jbhmm:
100% to do with why she has more opportunities than a dark skinned artist, without discussion.
She definitely is inspired by soul music and leans towards soul music, especially on her debut album.

Her being white at least removes all of the road blocks black women artists face. No discussion.

Had Keyshia Cole been white.. Had India.Arie been white... we know they prefer white men and women in all top slots, so they always get the push.

@Tribal Outkast @The Devil's Advocate I assume you´re cacs, if not, you´re 2 lost negros.

Breh she's outselling most white people period. Would she do those numbers if she was Black? Of course not.
Why not? Whitney did it?

For all this, “black people can never surpass white people” talk, plenty did it. Em is top now. Where’s the other white rappers? Every other top selling artist is black. Outselling all white rappers in droves.

Adele doing her numbers now. But check the list. Only people who sold more did country (Twain) and rock (morrissette). For R&b/soul/pop, Whitney is still number 1 from back in the 80s

We wanna do male pop. MJ. Case closed.

shyt as niche as reggae is, bob Marley is top 20 all time in sales. Beating a lot of whites in a lot of genres

Is being white a plus with sales. Of course. Are they unbeatable? Facts say no. Is it an automatic hit cause you white, fukk no.

If Adele was black making the same music she would not sale like she does. She would definitely be mid-tier and not winning awards like she does. Same with Sam Smith. I don’t see how you could say different knowing they just take soul music and packaged it differently. From the 60’s on down. Rumor Has it sounded like it was from Motown.

Other white singers not selling isn’t relevant to the arguement. Tons of Black singers don’t either. The music business isn’t set up for everyone to sale. We are talking about those on this level able to break out to present their music on a world stage. If Adele was Black she would be Jasmine Sullivan and sadly there are a lot of black people that wouldn’t buy Black Adele because as a Black artist we expect more. You have to do more than be able to sing in the Black community because tons can sing like that. But a white girl with “soul”?

Both are talented. I actually like Sam Smith more than Adele. She is boring to me. When Hello came out I just didn’t get the hype. Still don’t. It didn’t make me want to buy her album. I will still sing it when it comes on in the car tho. It is talent level PLUS complexion.

Why am I being tagged in this?

Look y’all, I am being negged and being called a cac and all this bullshyt over a conversation about fukking Adele vs Beyoncé. I don’t like Adele at all, I said so don’t get the appeal. I actually like Beyoncé more than I like Adele. I just don’t buy either chicks music. Plenty black peoples have propped up Adele, Justin Timberlake, John Mayer, and all these other white singers that I feel aren’t even worth being talked about. I LISTEN TO MORE UNDERGROUND BLACK MUSIC THAN A LOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS SITE! I’m trying to understand why a lot of black artists don’t sell what they fukking deserve to sell. Jill Scott, Erykah Badu’s last few albums, Jasmine Sullivan, Tweet, Res, etc etc... I can name you plenty black singers who didn’t even get a chance to be great but dropped great music. Beyoncé and Rihanna are doing well, I don’t have to care about them. Hell, I took a chance on Rihanna’s Anti album and fell in love with it. Why are people assuming that I care about this Adele chick? I’m still trying to figure out her success. I’d rather somebody like the Alabama Shakes have that success but it is what it is.

I think we are comparing the wrong things when we talk about this subject. What I mean is the surface reason she sells more is that yes white people support other whites, that's not to say that blacks by comparison don't support other blacks. I think the underlying issue is disposable income to support an artist. I think when you compare the vast amounts of wealth whites have worldwide compared to non-whites specifically blacks you will start to get a sense of why blacks can't always just shell out money for these things. I know there are going to be some people in here screaming about jordans, weaves, and whatnot but if you really look at what the majority of black people spend money on it would most likely be basic necessities IMO. Going to concerts buying merchandise, etc has been primarily targeted at whites for a long time because they have the most money.

TLDR Yes, she sells more because she is white, she is marketed towards whites and they have the most money collectively.

There really should be a groan or thumbs down button on this site.

I have never seen bullshyt packaged so beautifully.

Of course her skin color is a factor, but it is not the only factor in her favor. She can sing.

And her songs arrangements allow for her personality and emotion to come through.

White females have been the last group willing to actually purchase music. They buy who and what they relate to. That is natural.

When I would go in a record store years ago and had to make a choice to purchase either a Wu-tang album or a Nirvana album, I chose that which best related to my taste and my life, which was Wu Tang.

Obviously millions more of white people chose Nirvana because they could relate to Kurt Cobain. Why is this so difficult now to understand?

Clowns always bring up Jazmine Sullivan or Jill Scott in these Adele discussions. What was the last Jill or Jazmine album you all purchased? I'll wait. You all have to dead this ___________ sells just because they are white. There are tons of white R&B and rap artists that never make it out of the gate. More so rappers. By y'all logic some cac like T-Bo should have been selling millions.
That’s what I’m saying.. I’m being brought up in this discussion like I said I love Adele and shyt. I can’t name 5 Adele songs.. I’m just saying she’s killing everybody SALES WISE. nikkas be naming all these singers like Jill and Jasmine when it’s convenient.. I still laugh at all these Solange fans that popped up when A Sea at the table dropped.. I was like y’all remember then other 3 albums she dropped? The albums she dropped when y’all were clowning her talking about she ain’t Beyoncé?

Can you explain? I really don’t understand how I became a white man that loves Adele. I’m really trying to get it

Her kind of music sells. She’s not in the game cause she’s white.

Her and Jasmine make way different music lmao.

Anyone who thinks that Adele and Jazmine make the same music fundamentally do not understand the differences in music production, arrangement, styling, etc.

Jazmine can sing, but her song choices do not match the potential of her voice.

Bust Your Windows was an insanely horrible choice to launch her career on.
