People really don't see that Obama in the white house has allowed the racists to go full fledged terror on our people more???? People need to go read the Brown Decision and the Civil RIghts Act of 1964...then look at stats of white violence on blacks since 2008...history repeating itself...people are just ignoring the obvious at the point or they just don't care
Hell look at reconstruction its repeating itself

No, brother...its called the Nadir....we are in the New Nadir...we are regressing to the lowest point in black history as unemployment is skyrocketing black urban centers, white/black income and net worth gap is growing wider by the day, white violence against blacks by police and white citizens is growing, and our political votes are being blocked by hypersegregation...capitalist white hegemony is putting us back at the very bottom and using our culture to help with consumer music and materialism...New Nadir homie

Very true but maybe we could learn from the mistakes in the first reconstruction so we don't have a second Jim crow

At all these smart dumb nikkas in this thread.... How fukkin stupid can you be to think that INTEGRATION WAS A BAD THING?!?!
Seriously.... Do you understand that was a way of keeping us down and inferior in this country...Do you know what it was like to have to go through the backdoor of a restaurant or move to the back of the train just because you were black!?!? Do you realize we would have to build our own transportation infrastructure (Airports, subways)in order to not be treated that way anymore!?! Integration is not the reason we dont have back owned businesses...The socio economic factors of the Reagan Era coupled with the Drug War and self destructive cultural influences are tge reason and until we break away from all those things there is no hope...You need to be smacked upside your head if you think us being treated like citizens of ourown country that we built is why we cant stick together and build shyt anymore...For real :pacspit:
I agree but some only see things like we had more mom and pop stores instead of what you spoke on. I also think integration didnt lead people astray but feeling this is it and not collectively work to get farther let us down more than integration. We have all these chances to do things in the world but people still singing the same old we shall overcome shyt in 2014 our grandparents were on. Things like this hold us back more.

This.

Sports and rap did this IMO

Smart black people in the 90s and early 00s...that actually tried to be educated get called c00ns and white-washed and black men that sell dop, don't take care o their kids, live outside of their means, and are generally ignorant are praised as "real"..

In any other community, the smartest and the most innovative are heralded...EXCEPT in the black community.

Keep in mind during slavery...it was illegal for black people to read and they faced death for trying to educate themselves.

In that case...you're shooting yourself in the foot.
Sports and rap did mess with us but only some who were lost anyway. We are on a messageboard filled with people that grew up around that same shyt but aren't messed up from it that's why I give very little blame to sports and rap. Also people talk about moreso a hood culture and make that blacks in general because keeping it real who nowadays is praising drug dealers but maybe a few young boys who that's they only close view of success? Hell in the 90's it wasn't that bad but moreso than now IMO.

Yea there are issues in the community, but to ignorantly attack blacks for problems created and MAINTAINED by racial oppression is regressive...the only way to fix problems in the black community is to address the history of tragedy that has created systemic racism on our people; once we address it and teach it, we can develop solutions to gradually fix these problems...we as a massive people must do this on all levels of our community and get our hands dirty, get in the community and fight for our people.
I think the only way to fix thing is acknowledge things happened and move on in a positive/productive manner from here on out. We can't changed what happened but we sure can alter the future but if all we do is speak on the past you'll be stuck there forever.

look at some of the responses white people give when we bring up the past.

"lets look towards the future"
"you're allowing the past to hold you back"
"I know things were bad back then, but look how far black people have come"

basically anything to keep Black people from studying their past as if the past isn't an indicator of things to come in the future.

  • Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
    • This famous statement has produced many paraphrases and variants:
      • Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
      • Those who do not remember their past are condemned to repeat their mistakes.
      • Those who do not read history are doomed to repeat it.
      • Those who fail to learn from the mistakes of their predecessors are destined to repeat them.
      • Those who do not know history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them.
    • There is a similar quote by Edmund Burke that often leads to misattribution, "People will not look forward to posterity, who never look backward to their ancestors."

Black people are so blinded by "how far we've come" that we don't see how we're walking right into the same traps our ancestors did.

We arguing the same thing...until people understand how these happen, we can't move on and find solutions...history repeats itself breh

VOID
TRUTH

I've heard cacs complain about Welfare...then on the other hand complain about black schools & that they need to be closed down/affirmative action etc.

So if you don't want me on Welfare & don't want me to go to school to better myself....what do you want me to do?

the only answer is to DIE. I just wish more black people realized this. Once we figure it out...we can do a lot better for each other.

This is sad but true...they just want us to kill each other. Or ourselves.

do you think a race war like that (and the civil rights movement) could get to that scale ever again.

Yes it could. I really think that we have the mobilization force to where this could happen again...us black intellectuals must conduct social movements and help our community conduct new strategies...lots of good stuff in that book and I am a historian myself
