The majority of people & outlets back then did consider him the nicest in the game fam. Of course there were some detractors; especially amongst his peers but to me it seemed more like being mad petty & jealousy because of how he blew up. To me it seemed the majority out weighed the detractors. And you have to look at Jay's success & even Puffy's success. @Rapmastermind has a informative thread about Big's plans & both Jay & Puff stole his ideas. That gives you a glimpse into what his future might've looked like had he lived

No the fukk they didn't. The majority of Big's peers in NYC weren't even fukking him.

The blueprint of trying to have a little for the street, a little for the club, the sentimental joint, the cross regional joint, ect, ect was followed by NYC for a decade+ & helped water the music down & ultimately sew their own demise.
The life after death was the continence of this trash blueprint on how to craft eastcoast albums.

Stop it.

Only albums I would consider better from 1996 is Reasonable Doubt. Atliens, Ironman, it was written and AEOM are close IMO but nah.
nikkaz wasn't even feeling reasonable doubt until the blueprint dropped. shyt barely went gold

I don't agree that it's the GOAT album, but I can easily see why someone would think so. That one album has a lot of classic songs spread across two discs.

In terms of his death playing a part in people showing pity or overly praising the album, I mean of course that's a factor, but LAD still caught flack. People who weren't fans of the shiny suit/jiggy era point to this album as the catalyst for it and were very critical. They still are critical.

Very true (gotta cousin that always felt that way) but it seemed it was a minority of people that might've felt like that.

yup.

and well yea. big was kicking off year 3 of a huge run all over TV & radio, while jay was debuting with an independent album.

of course, biggie was gonna have more fans. I just don't like the picture people paint, acting like jay was some inferior underling, when in reality they were in 2 different places in their careers.

i was just sayin'. ain't no need to come at me with some dry sarcasm, bruh:martin:

says the guy who was blatantly trolling in my thread recently.

don't sit up here and play innocent, acting like you didn't have that chit coming to you.

at least I kept it on topic when I came at your neck and didn't derail your thread.

@W.I.Z.E. watch what youre dappin, if you don't know whats going on. you might catch a stray next time.

No Father To MY Style.. A Son Unique
Its not my fav but im not mad at anyone who says that. This album in particular because it basically birthed every album after it. So many diff song styles on here. I feel like its blueprint has been copied hundreds if not more times.

Great album but no way. Arguably Not even the best double disc hip hop album. And the way the nikka tried to diminish RTD was crazy cause THAT was Biggie's true impactful album. No album with tracks like "Another" is the greatest hip hop album in history.

:yeshrug:
i hear dudes say this ALL da time

problem is... i dont know 1 single female that dosnt love that track & im talking from a wide range

"life after death" inspired a generation of under-achieving rappers(like Juelz Santana) who then went on to inspire a generation of mediocrity.

i'll probably be tuned out by the time the next generation comes around.

a 4 mic or so quality album gets gassed up as goat, mainly due to sentimentalism & pity. then millions of rappers follow suit, not realizing its main ingredient to success.

Na jay and nas along with 50 fab and now kendrick lamar have stated they use this album as blueprints and inspiration

If you call those rappers underachievers and not successful then idk what 2 say

He wasn't considered the nicest dude out breh. That's partially my point.

There was never this universal consensus he was the best. The East couldn't even agree on that. Everyone from Wu to BCC to De La was dissing him.

So if his own city didn't agree....how is he the best out? How is he the GOAT?

People act like there wasn't a large sub-section of rap fans that seen BIG, Puff, and all that flossy player shyt as the worst shyt out.

The thing is, he died. And suddenly everyone that was dissing him, and criticizing him, couldn't any more. And he died at the height of his popularity, so he's forever at the height of his career. Which is why people will forever pay homage.

The same thing happened to Pac. People talk about "I wonder what Pac would be rapping about in 2016". Nothing. Who knows if he'd even have a career?

BIG could've fell off after a couple more albums. Which is what happens to 99% of rappers in existence. You can't look at how hot he was when he died, and apply that to his entire career. Or look at Jay's success, and say "that could've been BIG". It's not that simple.
