Depending on the couple, I don’t see why they can’t do both (save for a wedding and a house). Not opposed to courthouse weddings, but I personally think a wedding is fine as long as you can budget for it properly.
this is the same forum that constantly says international travel is to expensive so no one leaves usa,

now were saying you can save 20k and also buy a house. shyt not that easy for the average person. and even if you wanted to do both why not buy the house first, yknow the important thing.

imo nothing wrong with it. You have one wedding plus you can always make that money back. Not every life decision has to be financially motivated, happiness matters too.

Money is the number one leading cause of divorce. Do you think it's a good idea to start a marriage off 12K to 20K in the hole? Most people don' have the money on hand and go into debt to fund it.

That expensive wedding increases the odds of a divorce which will cost even more money. If you got it then there is nothing wrong with it but the reality is most people can't afford it.

Because depending on the couple, buying a house may not be a priority. Maybe they are early in their careers and plan on relocating. Some travel extensively after marriage I think buying a house is important but the timing could be off.

I thought I'd say it would be OK if someone else was paying, but even then, I would've just appreciated being given the $20k to start my life.

Got married by a military chaplain for free, and paid for the license and some cheap wedding bands, all for about $100.

Dropping that kind of money on a wedding seems impractical given that many marriages fail within the first 5 years.

Why do you have to be in the hole though? An engagement of 12-24 months is long enough to save. Even have some family donating. Yeah if you’re going into debt that’s one thing, but it’s completely possible for two people to save up and have a decent wedding. There is a whole lot of space in between the courthouse and a $30k wedding.

You don't have to be in the hole I'm just using stats I pulled out my ass to assume most people can't afford it since most people are broke and bad with money:lolbron:

Going into debt for a wedding I don't really agree with unless you got a high income or will have one in the near future.

I was speaking more along the lines of saving that wedding money for something else. That something else will always be around but your wedding is once in a lifetime (for many).

Generally, I'm just not too fond of running my life like a fortune 500 ceo and prioritizing profit over everything. Gotta live a little.:yeshrug:

Above the fray.
There's a market out there for a company that can franchise wedding planning for a flat flee.

If I had the resources,I'd put a team together myself and do it.

purchase a venue& .rent it out to 3rd parties..or make arrangement with owners of venue to buy up blocks of weekends to rent it out during wedding season

hire bands/djs to suit the wedding party
arrange catering to suit wedding party

hire wait staff/cleaning crew
hire videographer

get insurance

offer service for a flat flee....or different tiers of wedding parties
