Mortal Man, the song is some next level story telling and will go down as a classic.

It may not be as impressive lyrically as Mural as far as technique and rhyming but it's a more touching song
then that means he has no tracks that touch mural.

Lupe has lines that like work in the paragraph but not the bigger picture

My preference for the bigger emotional picture is why i kinda stopped fukking with him.

Rather hear the cool than this. And the cool painted a way better picture than this its not even close.

Sometimes being lyrically nice isnt about figuring out the line but delivering the message you intend in the best way possible.
That’s why we have Drogas Wave

One of the most vivid, cinematic, heartfelt mythological depictions of the black diaspora in audio format. :wow:

All praise is due to God for blessing Wasalu with the gift of lyrical wizardry :blessed:

Ab soul:mjlol:

Thats like comparing a hs graduate to a dr.

Case in point -- "thet resurrect over new"ft. Ab.soul

Reading comprehension must b an alien notion to u. No one in their right mind would say Soul is on Lupe level.....no shyt:ufdup:

I was only saying they are stylistically more comparable than ppl comparing Kendrick to Lupe

But Lupe can do both.

Kendrick cannot.

Yall use that “Lupe too complex” argument as if he doesnt have he say, she say, hood now, sunshine, Imagine, jonylah forever, etc.

Lupe is a beast at lyricism but to re-write history as if He cant deliver anything else is false. He JUST put out drogas light, which scaled back on the bars.

Lupe could Make a Kendrick type record. Kendrick cannot make a Lupe type one.

Depends how you look at it, lyrically dense as mural? No but again, who wants to do all that on a track. I'm sure he could if he wanted but he doesn't need or want to do all that.

Edit: As a fan of lyricism I can appreciate Mural and lyrically dense records but that's not what everyone does nor do they need to. Your also not likely to connect with the world at large making records like that either.

There is no precedent Kendrick has set to say he could do it if wanted to but chooses not to.

Even if we scale it back to Lupe songs not as self indulgent as Mural, like Theme Music to A Drive By, there isn’t much evidence to suggest that Kendrick can rap at that level.

But for people that are familiar with both artists, there’s nobody that can claim that Lupe isn’t capable of making a song like How Much A Dollar Cost.

Although I think there is some things Kendrick does that Lupe doesn’t do, but I feel that’s out of choice.

And not rain like, rain man or rain like rain dance
Or rain like a slight chance of rain when it's raining
Or rein like deer slaves to Santa Claus sleigh man
But reign like Queens that reign over made man
And not Queen like Queen killer, rhapsody bohemian Queen
But Queen like white glove wave hand
And not wave hand like it's a heat wave
So you make a fan by waving your hand
I'm talking wave like you saying "hey"

If you borderline cult members don't get the fukk outta here with these self-indulgent smart-dumb nikka lyrics, JESUS fukkING CHRIST, enough already.

Not even a huge Kendrick fan, but thankfully NO he doesn't have a song like this.

If you wasn't the GOAT of this board I'd ask for the fade but you are so :mjcry: I'm just gonna tell you to leave us Lupe fans alone.

And Lupe’s a better storyteller as well :sas2:

Lupe might be the most creative story teller in rap history. In He Say She Say when he spit the same exact verse but only changed the pronouns to give each verse a different perspective, it blew my mind.

Kendrick could never. He thinks black on black crime is equivalent to cops killing unarmed black people smh. Kendrick gets carried by his flow, which is top tier.

So that has nothing to do with the main topic of the thread lol.

The question was does kendrick have a song as lyrically sharp as “mural”, not who makes the most connecting song. We already know most lyrical songs dont connect these days in this current climate.

And once again, Lupe has songs where he’s not trying to be a super rapper. Mural is just bar flexing. Im pretty sure Lupe knew making a nearly 10 minute freestyle record with no hook wasnt going to be a smash hit. Its just the fact that the nikka is even capable of doing it is the point.

We know kendrick can gloat being the best and name drop people in control, but we arent sure if he can do a mural.

No he doesn't have a track "like" mural, no one does. I don't think he'd want to either.

They're both dope, Lupe is better technically, Kendrick has been more consistent and makes much better consumable records that are also trying to say something. Like kendrick is just better aesthetically, he picks better beats, and is more versatile on his albums. Lupe hasn't caught a hit in a decade , and I'm ok with that in 2018.

I still love Lupe, but current Kendrick is what I would have hoped Fahrenheit 1/15 Lupe would have evolved into.

I hate even stepping into these debates like this
