I was born into a family of programmers.

so?

you haven't shown that it's not better to get the degree. or that you won't end up as high paid slave.

And I was born into a family of auto workers with no degrees...... who all now have huge houses, many cars, savings accts, and live off retirement checks - ITS a different time breh.

What is their to show when I've lived it? Self-taught people are entrepreneurial by nature.

you have a point..

but in the context of a company.... a degree serves you better in the long run.

I know a couple of cats that's been developing for over 20 years and whatever company the contract for, they act like rock stars...................Make their own hours and demand ridiculous wages....all because they are extremely good at what they do......

when I got into IT then I truly understood the terminology "knowledge = power".

I will chime in and say any halfway decent computer science curriculum will give students a solid foundation in data structures and algorithms, which any halfway decent programmer has to be familiar with. It's not like they're impenetrable topics to learn on your own, but someone who's self-taught and not familiar with what they need to learn runs the risk of not familiarizing themselves with those topics

Why are people so focused on skimming by with the bare minimum?
