Yes and no because he was right about Melo and Phil couldn't really do his job with him there but at the same time he gave him a NTC.

He tried to correct a mistake but he didn't have the power to do it.

Hell no. He was too stubborn to adapt. He was dead set on running an offense no wanted, not even the coach. He brought in guys like Sasha Vujacic and Bargnani to run that offense. He traded away our best assets for scrubs. Thank God for our overseas scouts who convinced him on Porzingis. He even wanted to trade him away for additional picks to get Markannen.

This is a guy who traded Jr Smith, Shumpert and Tim Hardaway Jr. We had Robin Lopez on a friendly contract of $15 a year and he got rid of him for Noah at $20.

Phil was a victim of prior mistakes (no 1st in two of his 4 drafts), and his own indecisiveness. Could've fully committed to a rebuild but he gave Melo a huge deal + the NTC. That led to bad "win now" moves that triggered buyers remorse immediately. Handled the attempt to trade Melo terribly. Whiffed on his first head coach, and created an awkward situation for his second with the triangle conundrum. KP exit meeting nonsense.

Scouting young talent was the only part of the job he didn't botch

Giving Phil more credit than he deserves for anything and everything is a respected tradition so yeah, he should get all the credit. He should get the credit for the Bucks getting Giannis too.

Running the triangle with their roster

Free Agent Signing of:noah:

1)The triangle works, breh. Popovich runs a similar motion offense like the triangle. I guarantee you if Popovich was in the same position as Phil, knicks fans would be just as frustrated...it's a process to build a winning culture in a city that hasn't won a championship in like 40 years. Popovich has a similar management style like phil, he doesn't do well with dudes who don't check their egos (I.e Stephen Jackson) . So him and Melo were bound to clash.
2)That summer teams were overpaying for mediocre players and Noah the year before was still a good rebounding defense-minded big. In the context of that summer that contract is forgivable.
KENT BAZEMORE: 4 years, $70 million with Hawks
BISMACK BIYOMBO: 4 years, $72 million with Magic
RYAN ANDERSON: 4 years, $80 million with Rockets
TIMOFEY MOZGOV: 4 years, $64 million with Lakers :snoop:

What does he get credit for?

:mjlol:

Thread would've made sense if he (Phil) was still there. Hell, we might as well give Melo credit too, for teaching then leaving.

Phil Barely Watched Knicks Games You Think He Was Really Watching Unknowns In Latvia?

We’re An NBA Team With International Scouts

How the Knicks front office talked themselves into Porzingis

Clarence Gaines, Phil Jackson’s top adviser, was so enamored with Kristaps Porzingis, he thought the Knicks should take the 19-year-old if they won the lottery.

Gaines, a Bulls scout during Jackson’s tenure and his only new front-office hire with the Knicks, is considered Jackson’s most trusted personnel guy. Gaines made a scouting trip to Spain last winter to watch the 7-foot-3 Latvian.

Clarence had gone over and seen him and he sent Phil a text and said if he had the first pick of the draft, this is the kid he would take,’’ Knicks general manager Steve Mills said during Monday night’s summer-league telecast from Vegas on MSG Network.

Despite Gaines’ enthusiasim, Karl-Anthony Towns or Jahlil Okafor would’ve been the pick had they landed the No. 1 pick, Mills indicated
Mills also made a trip to Spain to watch Porzingis in the ACB league, and that’s when 21-year-old center Guillermo Hernangomez, whom the Knicks selected in the second round, caught his eye. The Knicks made a deal with the Sixers to take Hernangomez with the 35th pick, and the Knicks plan to have him on the team in 2016-17. Jackson never traveled to Spain to see Porzingis or Hernangomez.

Mills And Gaines Traveled To Watch KP Play, Phil Never Went Anywhere

Dog you knows how this goes...sum of all parts...You represent the big dog therefore it's the big dog's choice :ld:

If Phil was still there we may have traded KP, and we definitely would still be drowning under the triangle bullshyt.
Phil was in dont give a fukk mode Since they kept Melo, and Threw all their dollars on aging B/C level players to pacify Melo.....

If Knicks wasnt throwing Money at Noah, Rose and the bunch to appease Melo, they might've could of had a solid number two next to KP

Nope. This is all casual talk that people love to have after the fact.

The environment was toxic when Phil was still in charge. They made some good draft picks, but they resigned Melo when it was clear they should not have. He hired Derek Fisher as coach. The Noah contract is a complete disaster. Forcing the triangle when nobody wanted to play that way anymore either. We almost lost our coach by being forced to be the scapegoat if Phil's outdated schemes did not work out.

See our guy Porzingis now? Dude walked out at the end of last season because of how toxic things were and Phil with his arrogance ALMOST traded him. Dolan FINALLY made the right call and cut his losses and moved on.
