I have no way of proving this and this is just my own theory . But I think that Jimi Hendrix roll was supposed to he his big breakout moment in acting and it never happened. They were talking about that movie and roll since ‘05 . I think dre thought acting was going to be his next artistic move and it didn’t pan out. Funny the big time eclectic musicians was trying to become known for playing another eclectic artists in a movie

How didn't acting pan out for him?

Again just my thoughts, he was in a few movies I don’t think his movie career turned out to be the success people thought. I think that Jimi Hendrix roll was supposed to be that big movie star moment where we look at him like people did Jamie after Ray, and not just a rapper in a movie.

my perspective on lauryn is different than yours and probably most on here. before she was a neo-soul singing mainstream media darling she was killing nikkas lyrically on bobbito and stretch and had mad nikkas shook. and that's why i name dropped her for being disappointing

for instance in late 1995, there was a hot rumor going around in the underground that L boogie was gonna be a feature on nas new album. our first remarks? oh shyt damn yo, i wonder who gonna have the best verse nas or lauryn. lol meaning of course, we expected her to rhyme. you dig? i ain't even looking at this through the lens of that grammy award winning album she still gets gassed off of. that wasn't what i wanted from her

This is a huge point.

For those of us who heard her rhyming on college radio and on mixtapes and radio at the time, we all thought we would get an album with her highlighting how dope she was, as an MC. Her album dropped during a time when the hybrid rapping/singing thing started taking off for females though. Even Queen Latifah was doing more singing on her albums at that point, than rapping. And Missy had just dropped like a year before, so labels wanted that sound. But a lot of us wanted an album with Lauryn mostly rhyming. I was surprised at how much she was singing on it. I didn't see that coming.

He's been in more than a few movies. The Hendrix movie was years in the making, but it was never going to be the magnitude of what Ray was. Andre has had roles where people looked at him beyond just a rapper in a movie. The roles he took on were never going to get him an Academy award or warrant any Oscar buzz. Andre 3000 as an actor is pretty much on par with Mos Def.

oh word son, exactly. based on the '92 era reggie avy (funny i was rockin the same exact one off google images last year lol) i'm guessing you're a dusty old head like me and not a young old head like most of the folks around here. they don't have that reference point like we do & could have been in high school or for some even middle school when miseducation dropped

i just wanted a 15 joint album with maybe 2 or 3 tracks form diamond d so she could give us "dreams of euphoria, aurora" type lyrics without having to fast forward through wack juice pras sucking in spit through his teeth before a bar like '94 method man smh. bitin' ass nikka lol

Oh. I'm mad dusty, bro. LOL!! That's my era.

I remember Stretch and Bob having a "wackest MC's of all-time" thing on the show around '96. And the people had Pras in the Top 5. Dude was unbelievably trash. Clef always said Pras was the "business man" of the group. He should've stuck to that and stayed off the mic.

I know I’m not the only one who read the thread title and thought Dr. Dre & Biggie ha

We know Biggie apparently saw Suge when he went up to a bad boy studio or offices for whatever when he supposedly said to Suge “Tell Dre to send me some beats”

And we know Daz full of Ducktales but says he has unreleased Biggie music which isn’t too unbelievable tbf there’s pics of big with DPG n them from 93’ 94’ so maybe it’s from then, But know knows

Saw the title and thought it was gonna be something to do with either of those things ^^^

Seriously, why did Method Man always do that? Was that just a style or did he have breath control problems back then? :russ:

lol it was a stylistic choice and it made everything sound even more fly

no shots fired and rest in peace to sean price but even he flirted with it off the nocturnal album. he does it on letha brainz blo and maybe one other joint. you could tell at that still developing stage he was a huge fan of both meth and red. both him and rock matter of fact stayed with dare iz a on repeat. difference between them and pras though was they were slightly influenced where pras was doing tical karaoke smh

Million dollar show events. Easy money to do what you love or others would love to do.

But nope :francis:

Coudl've been like the Rolling Stones touring. I'd pay to see them even if I was :old:

Best of times, man.

I still have boxes and boxes of TDK's and Maxell's from that era. Staying up mad late to record that show from the very beginning all the way til when they ended it. Never missed a show. Taping that back then was like a religious experience for us.

I'm a old head too 43 to be exact, and I say this Pras was getting in Clef ass on the Score, Clef didn't start finding himself lyrically to the end of the album
