:heh:

We'd be in court.

Which is my point. If this shyt has no truth to it Nas should file a lawsuit for defamation. She's hurting his brand right? Def Jam has a mean legal team too. This is one of their products so she's hurting their brand too.

Except this is hip hop and Nas is from Queensbridge so taking a female to court probably isn't a good look.

I think it hurts the whole culture when our greatest legends have others tarnishing their legacy and reputation from people who are supposedly also hip hop heads with a certain status. People should voice their opinion over it here and on Twitter. You guys mistake someone saying 'fukk her' as raging at their desk at work, breaking printers like Office Space, and slapping random women who walk by the water cooler.

The thing that gets me about all this is the use of the term "ghost writer"... its not a ghost writer if the person is credited. that defeats the point of it being a ghostwriter. these guys are credited on the album, and been openly discussing their roles in that album from way back.

plus this was a concept album, much more ambitious than your average hip hop formula driven, club song + chick song + street song + struggle rap ... to expect anyone to sit down in isolation and come up with something that's ambitious is ridiculous. people having unrealistic expectations. even if they wrote entire verses (which i highly doubt, probably more like collaboration blurring the line on whos the true author) why should that even matter?

I could personally never use another man's words. I ain't nobody tho

Just hearing what Nas has spit over the years makes me think that Nas using Stic Man's bars would be like Superman putting on the Robin costume and riding shotgun in the Batmobile.

that sums it up perfect.. she really was trying to say that the reason jay-z doesn't have deep songs is because he doesn't fly people in to think up concepts. she coulda said that... where nas' name came from i really have no idea except to try to shyt on him and make jay seem better.

but that's dumb cause him and kanye i'm sure did all of the same things for watch the throne. matter of fact jay said he let kanye do it all and he just sat back and did his parts.

But this is where I think some people get it twisted... she was posed a Nas-related question, and responded in kind. The person straight-up asked her "why can't Jay make an album like '******'?"... so Nas was already in the conversation when that question was asked. It's not like she just came out of left field and said it like there wasn't a question to set up that response. And as much as people are trying to paint it as a "slander Nas" statement, the question posed to her was a veiled "Jay vs. Nas" question anyway. The person didn't ask why Jay couldn't write a "Nation of Millions" or a "Death Certificate" or a "Let's Get Free"... they asked about a Nas album. One that she may or may not have heard reference tracks for.

I don't know if what she says is true or not. But I wouldn't rule it out any faster than I'd believe it.

so how fast would you believe it?

and yes, it seemed like a petty question for which she gave a petty answer. i dont think she is above being facetious. it just seems like she is too head strong to admit it

Either/or, it's with a grain of salt until it's proven. I can't be quick to say "yo that bytch is lyin'!" just cause it's about Nas, who was my favorite rapper when I was younger... and I can't be quick to say "yo, she's tellin' the truth" just because she's a writer who's happened to write some great stuff in the past. She has just as much journalistic integrity as Nas has artistic integrity.

It was proven to be untrue by all peoples involved. They came out and made it clear.

Shes not a legendary journalist. She is not a top person in her profession. Not saying she is poor at what she does but it's not apples to apples. Her journalistic integrity is not the same as Nas' artistic integrity. Not to them and not to us as Hip Hop heads. We are talking about discrediting a rapper who I think universally would be top 10 of all time. I don't see how a Hip Hop head could deny him at this point.

If I had to come up with an analogy it is like discrediting Michael Jordan/Magic Johnson versus Marv Albert.

But here's the thing... even she herself has cited several times that Nas is one of her all-time favorites. She's not some chick that just popped up out of nowhere and hasn't been up to this point respected as a writer by people in and outside of hip-hop. She was there to write about both Biggie and Pac, and was cool with both of 'em. She's written on Nas before, and Jay-Z, and a lot of stuff for mags like The Source and Vibe in their classic years. So whether Nas is a top 10 MC or not, writers who've been around lots of artists tend to be less starstruck by them than fans are. They respect artists' work greatly, of course, but they're less likely to be so caught up in it that it clouds their ability to call a spade a spade. Hip hop heads are more likely to strictly go off "but it's NAS!!", whereas those who've met the individuals behind the records and are more keen to how the industry works might not be as quick to let "but it's NAS!!" be their reasoning.
