Either/or, it's with a grain of salt until it's proven. I can't be quick to say "yo that bytch is lyin'!" just cause it's about Nas, who was my favorite rapper when I was younger... and I can't be quick to say "yo, she's tellin' the truth" just because she's a writer who's happened to write some great stuff in the past. She has just as much journalistic integrity as Nas has artistic integrity.

making claims such as this without any evidence/proof speaks volumes about journalistic integrity.

sorry but "take my word for it" doesn't fly for any journalist. if she knows she has no way to prove it then she should have fell back if she knew anything about media ethics, which im sure she does.

she made a snide remark on twitter, it blew up, she refused to back down and it went from being a snide remark to being a accusation based entirely on her word. but she has produced zero evidence in support of her claim. so basically, she just started a rumor and is happy to leave it at that. if her integrity is in question its entirely her own doing.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
But here's the thing... even she herself has cited several times that Nas is one of her all-time favorites. She's not some chick that just popped up out of nowhere and hasn't been up to this point respected as a writer by people in and outside of hip-hop. She was there to write about both Biggie and Pac, and was cool with both of 'em. She's written on Nas before, and Jay-Z, and a lot of stuff for mags like The Source and Vibe in their classic years. So whether Nas is a top 10 MC or not, writers who've been around lots of artists tend to be less starstruck by them than fans are. They respect artists' work greatly, of course, but they're less likely to be so caught up in it that it clouds their ability to call a spade a spade. Hip hop heads are more likely to strictly go off "but it's NAS!!", whereas those who've met the individuals behind the records and are more keen to how the industry works might not be as quick to let "but it's NAS!!" be their reasoning.

Ok..say this is true...her saying what she said didn't even answer the question that was asked...did u think what she said was professional?..do u think the way she said it was professional?..did u see her switch what she heard up 3 times?..was it her business in the first place seeing as she wasn't there?..she did everything WRONG as a journalist...on a professional level..and all around...so what ur saying is basically irrelevant to this situation entirely...even if it was true ..she would STILL be in the wrong as a journalist...period..

Never said she was. I also never said she was a poor writer. I thought she did a good job with Jay-z to get that whole project together. I do think she is full of shyt and exaggerating to get attention. After she took her shots she fell back on the 'im just a poor woman being picked on by men' defense which I thought was lame.

It has nothing to do with being star struck. Im not saying she has to watch what she says because hes famous. It has to do with throwing out a heavy handed accusation at one of the greatest to do in a culture she (and we) partake in. She accused him of one of the ultimate sins of being an artist and a writer. As an artist and writer she should have approached it differently knowing that's quite a big thing to say. As a journalist who is connected she should have contacted all those people herself before she made her comment like it was a fact.

I just couldn't imagine a Rolling Stone writer saying that other people wrote Bob Dylan's songs for him with out providing any proof and not getting lit up like the sky on 4th of July.

This has nothing to do with misogyny. She attempted to uncover this "big Hip Hop secret" and it backfired. She should've known that this was going to have considerable backlash when she posted it.

If she wanted to expose something, she would've came out much better writing a book about Untitled in 2008 when the album was released. It didn't even have to be a book, it could've been a blog post. She could've stated what she thought she heard Jay Electronica tell her about "ghostwriting". Then she could've interviewed both Stic.man and Jay Electronica. Even though she would've been proven wrong, it would've made for a much more interesting discussion than her looking like hurt stan.

Furthermore, it all makes her look sensitive to Tweets as this all stems from a comment that rubbed her the wrong way. I feel bad for other female journalists who won't be taken as serious because of this. I mean, Kim O. is already catching it and she didn't even co-sign the whole "Nas used ghostwriters" notion. She basically reiterated what stic.man said. She implied that all rappers have assistance and that if we know who wrote the records then it isn't ghostwriting.

the story everyone talks about is that nas and biggie were driving round NY and nas was freestlying and biggie well asleep and when he woke up nas was still freestyle.

nas was recently asked about this and said it never happened.

tossing ideas up in the air while pollyin with a group of like minded people and actually having someone write down your verses are two completely different things. i think this broad feels stupid that she was obviously wrong and she's just too stubborn to retract. classic f*ckhead behavior.
