iPads and steam are nothing alike I don't get that comparison .And kinect is a casual gamer thing . I've said this time and time again the "benefits" of a Xbox1 being similar to a tablet , smart phone or computer just make it sound redundant . I have all of those things Already I don't need more Netflix , Skype , devices and if I want to talk to my friends I have a million ways to do that too. When I buy a console I care about the games and gaming experience not these other superfluous options . And to top it off i cant play offline and these greedy b*stards want to monitor me So they can make sure I'm not sharing or getting anything free.
Alot of people don't have the Internet in their homes ( it's easy to get Internet access out the home but in the home not always ) . The same way alot of people don't have cable. Oh and people overseas or in the armed flees. Serving abroad ??

because people want games that won't be able to run off an optical drive. but there's all these inherent issues when the data is no longer tied to a physical object. at some point it is silly to require a disc in the drive, even though the game's not running off it at all

they act like this is some useful innovation yet they could of allowed you to install games and access your library remotely without the extra stuff. People said "I don't need all that in my phone" before the iphone came out and look at it now. People also scoffed at the idea of the iPad because their laptop could do all of that.
Some people will be left out, but those people are a very small minority of the population. Especially with smart phones and mobile 3G like Clear. It's not very difficult to get an online connection. Those that can't shouldn't be buying a next gen console anyway because most games will be centered around online connectivity. There will be a small minority of games that can be used totally offline, and even those games will be severely gimped by being disconnected.

You call me a fanboy but why aren't you standing up to Sony and making them address the problems with PSN that have been there for years? Not only did they not address the problems they are now charging you for online gaming. What are you gonna do when/if PSN goes down for two weeks again?

I get you and too each his own but as a console gamer I could care less about that honestly . I mean it take me like 10 second to switch disks
1/3 of America =/= to 1/3 of GAMERS or people with high end electronics. Big difference there. Also the 24 hour check in can be completed with a smartphone.
Your girl may not play online but she doesn't give a fukk whether her game automaticaly checks the servers once a day. And she will love the fact that her single player experience can change and evolve while she's not playing. Being connected doesn't mean you are playing multiplayer.
You said you like to play nba 2k. Some of the stuff they are talking about with connected experiences sounds very cool. Dynamic AI that changes in real time with the strategies/tendencies of real players, lebron gets cold in real life, he get cold in your game. Up to the minute rosters, a trade happens while your at work, your game is automatically ready with the changes when you get home.
Sure you could play offline without these features, but would you really want to?
