The REAL Super Bowls were the NFC championship games back then

Cowboys, Giants, 9ers, Skins. Whoever won that game was winning the SB. Always feared the championship games more than the SBs. SMH @ making it to the SB and expecting a win cuz the AFC teams couldn't hang.

AFC teams used to be automatic Ls in the SB back in the 80s & 90s.

Look at the stats of qbs back then nobody was putting up super human stats at all people are spoiled by todays passing numbers

When you realize the numbers Nick Foles put up this year then look at say Marino and Montanas stats most years youll see what a joke todays nfl is in terms of passing

Elway was like Cutler with 2 rings. Folk were on this dude's dikk just off his big arm. Then all these 4th quarter comebacks and blah blah blah. Dude been riding the hype machine from time. Was a disappointment until he got those 2 rings and all those disappointing seasons were forgotten. Now folk got him above Marino, Young, etc? :what:

I'm exagerating a bit about the Cutler thing but just showing how people fall in love with big arms.

To me he's overrated by those that put him in GOAT contention....I'd say he's top 10 but on the outside of the top 5. There's no doubt he had a lot of sub par seasons that never get mentioned anymore. If Elway's stats were good for the era he played in what does it say about Marino being able to put up 48 and 44 td seasons in the same era? Yea stats can be overrated at times but they can also be underrated or glossed over...hell where would Elway be without the drive and his helicopter flip which is all you see whenever he's brought up? Its like Joe Namath and his guarantee. Make a few iconic plays and you're automatically a legend. I ain't saying Elway's that low but anyone calling him the GOAT can :camby:

Okay? Like I give a fukk about the following year. Brunell styled on the better team that game, in which Broncos and Elway suppose to win.

Broncos took that L and responded with 2 straight SB titles which is a dynasty in the NFL..

Brunell and the Jags are a footnote in history..

Beat it..:camby:

All the "great for the era" talk does is make you realize that Elway was never in the upper echelon of QBs
