He up there. Definitely number 1 out of the people I really listen to. I still can't get of that 3rd verse on stay wide awake.

Prowler, there's noone fouler
Bound ya that's how they found ya
Face down in the tub I drown ya
With piles of downers around ya
Such nostalgia and power, such prowess look how you cower

:wow:

The top of the City
lord finesse, kool g rap, and rakim are the best technically proficient emcees of all time.

eminem is offkey, on every verse vocal tonality wise.
which means his actual technical skill as a writer is used as virtual metronome to keep him from going off beat.
yet, he is always offkey, because he lacks vocal tonality.

g rap, finesse, and earlier rakim all perfected the technical rubrick with a deeper mastery of vocal tonality than eminem.
over numerous sonic landscape changes with fully recognized growth.

in the styles era, g rap used his physical setbacks from a lisp to dominate.
to this very day and age, where g rap perfectly pockets and uses expert vocal tonality bar to bar.

rakim came to the game with expert vocal tonality and the best technical skills in the history of rap.
with no fall off ever in his actual story and was never offkey a day in his career.

lord finesse was a bit offkey, in his earlier years.
while using his technical skills in the same virtual metronome based way that eminem still does to this day.
yet, in 1996 on the awakening.
finesse fully perfected his vocal tonality to one of the best ramped up skillsets of all time.
plus, one of the best vocal tonality based artist in rap history.

plus, none of these three guys ever bit anyone to ramp up skillset wise.

whereas eminem has bitten hordes of skilsets, over his career.
to ramp up in different areas of technical skill.
while never actually ramping up his ability to pocket flows with expert vocal tonality.

so, eminem can never be the best technical emcee of all time.
as technical skills are directly related to how you pocket a flow on a beat through technical application in rhyme.
of which through eminem's entire, he has never succeeded in ever doing.

Underrated post. You make a great point with the "vocal tonality" issue, and in a lot of discussions of great all time MC's, or even just a casual chop up of MC's you don't hear much people really refer to vocal tone as an important skill.

I think a lot of people take vocal tone for granted and just think great vocal tone guys like Rakim or Nas just were blessed with a great voice and it's not really seen as a skill. But that's not the case, these guys are known to spend time perfecting their tone and delivery and cadences. The fact that when you hear it, it sounds perfectly natural and conversational is just a testament to how deeply they mastered their vocal delivery.

I also agree, Eminem's vocal delivery and tone has gotten worse over time, he actually did have a decent tone early on, in the slim shady days, but he made the conscious decision to start the yell flow. I guess he thought that made sense for him, but I never dug it.

Eminem? :mindblown: He can't even stay in the pocket.

If he was black he'd be Chance the Rapper.

Em is the most technical ever imo...no one comes close to playing with words and flows like he does....you have a lot of nikkas that can flow or use words in a lot of crazy words like rakim, kool g, monch, elzhi, tec n9ne, etc....but em takes all that shyt to another level at times...the nikka uses phonetics to rhyme words on another level..

who else is doing this?

2nd verse

u kidding me? em is one of the best at riding a beat....u nikkas deaf? the more I see you nikkas talking bout sitting in the pocket, staying on beat makes it clear to me a lot of yall don't know what yall talking bout....the nikka makes snare drums his bytch as far as "sitting in the pocket" goes...
