Don't think it's a good sign that the new Joey Bada$$ leaked as a global release, and this one hasn't yet...

We'll see. Some artists launch at GMT (New Zealand time zone) and others wait until EST (East Coast).

If the plan was to wait until EST then it could still drop. Could go either way.

It's definitely right on us. They just finished the tour and are promoting it hard. They're on Drink Champs tomorrow. I feel like it'll probably drop next Fri instead, but I could be wrong.

I don’t really think that they’ve been promoting the actual album that hard tbh - they’ve been pushing the tour but they’ve not committed to a release date via press release, social media, etc - it’s all hear say….

They should be able to build enough traction on this off the strength that this is Badu’s first album in 15 years so if it’s a ‘surprise’ release then there will be a shift in momentum once the word is out. At the moment though, I don’t hear anyone talking about this except the hardcore fans that are usually locked in. I would thought the buzz for this would’ve been crazy since this is Badu’s first project for a decade and a half - maybe the response to the first single put a spanner in the works and they’re being more cautious on what they’re releasing beforehand…..

False, the date was not hear say. They literally committed to a release date via press release, social media, etc. There was an official announcement from their joint news letter. The August 29th release date was mentioned here.

Fair, although if you don’t sign up to the newsletter or go to the show then you’re not going to know the release date.

In regards to the socials, they both still don’t have the date on any of their profiles and the August 29th release date mentioned here was posted with no link to the source - just took it as good faith that is was happening as the person who posted is solid.

Not saying it’s not happening - I’m saying the promo for album itself is very lowkey. If you’re promoting an album then the key point of information is the release date and as said, they’re going hard with the tour content but it’s strange that they’re not pushing the release date as hard for an album that we know is coming, especially as it’s a long awaited comeback album for an all-time legendary artist. Even the Abi and Alan website doesn’t have the release date, just tour dates:

they 100% did commit to a release date. Badu did on social in early August and the flyers they gave out at our concert said August 29th.

But I agree with the rest and I think they’re going for more of a surprise drop style release.

Yep might be similar to when D’Angelo and the Vanguard dropped as the length of time since the last release is basically the same. Could catch fire once the word is out that there’s a new Badu album out, especially is if the music is hitting like you all are saying it is….

He's got a very young kid but I don't think he's married

Wonder if having a kid made him want to really put his foot down and make sure he's good financially forever

I will say it seems like when he's not on tour he's always at home. When people record music with him it's like 95% of the time at his house

He starts early in the morning and finishes early afternoon, remember him saying it in an interview, still has most of his day

Yep.

As said, the fact the date wasn’t on the website, socials, etc made the whole thing shaky. I’ll be surprised if we get this anytime soon
