I feel like Ethiopia acting as a puppet to take out the ICU fukked y’all over big. From the looks of it, they were a respected group that was getting things in order. That’s some a$$hole shyt to get rid of the more moderate ICU and leave al Shabab behind to fill the void. Grimey shyt. :beli:

Nah it all falls back on us not being able to agree on how to fill the vacuum that was left by the Barre regime. Nikkas got rid of Barre and had no plan for how to manage the aftermath :snoop:

If the rebels had made a power sharing agreement amongst themselves we would not have been in this mess today. Instead they massacred one another, which fragmented the country even further and tribal animosities became entrenched.

Ethiopia was looking out for its best interests, we would've done the same :manny:

It's done because Somalis are dumb and can't see past their tiny villages :francis:
Until al shabaab gets destroyed. Somalia will stay the same as it is. Also whoever said somali galbeed would join somalia is delusional. They would make there own country in a heartbeat. Who would want to join somalia in the state its in. Look how bad corruption is right now and amisom milking it staying in somalia. Al shabaab should be gone by now.

Al shabaab is only a symptom. The problem is much deeper :francis:

They only came about in 06 or 07. That's like 15 years after the civil war.

You need to switch up your tone. There might be delusional old men sticking to their old ways but there’s a lot of fresh blood in Somalia. A lot of Somalis are vying once again for the pan Somali dream. Playing the gothic teenager and lamenting about our situation isn’t a solution. You need to put some respect on the Somalis who are risking everything for their country rn. No one is fighting al shabaab but us. None of that even makes it to the news.

Chin up aboowe. Our country will improve. It’s inevitable. That’s how I like to see it.

Yeah. Somalis are “stupid” right. That’s what you said. That’s how it sounds to me.

In general :manny:

The region is moving forward and we're fighting over some dusty tuulo called Tukaraq :francis:

In Ramadan, our brilliant leaders decided that this was the time to go to war over this tuulo and the youth were more than happy to sacrifice their lives for the cause :francis:

We still have the old guard, who destroyed the country, running the show. And people still support them, young and old.

The new generation is just as tribalist as the older generation. Even in the West. :wow:

The first part I completely agree with. Our real enemies are in Ethiopia, uae and to some extent Kenya because they like to fukk with our sovereignty every now and then. But I don’t like to propagate this idea that all Somalis think like those old men. I know Somalis like that in real life and they’ve stopped even trying to be logical with their opinions. They just assume that if you’re Somali you will agree.

Also I don’t know if the last bit was supposed to be a jab at me. But you can’t talk about modern or historical Somali politics without understanding in depth the inter clan relations. It’s not enough for you to be anti tribalism if the people you’re talking about are tribalistic you won’t ever understand their motivations. And in turn beat them.

This is an interesting thread. But I’ve got a long day of work tomorrow so I’ll check back in then.

In a matter of a few months I went from a somaliweynist to pretty much not giving a fukk what happens in the country until there’s some actual stability and development. nikkas are still on “my dusty village” and “my qabil territory” bullshyt. If they can’t realise that such things are irrelevant in 2018 then there’s no reason for me to be invested in Somali politics.

Abiy Ahmed is the truth though. If only we had a figure like him. I’m still hoping Farmajo and Kheyre could help us out but there’s so many barriers in the way that it’s nearly impossible. Somalia in its current state is done :francis:

Nah it wasn't a jab, just a general statement. Our worst enemies are in Somalia, not in Kenya or Ethiopia. That mentality has got to go. :francis:

We put ourselves in this situation. Why would Ethiopia and Kenya not try to benefit from it? :stopitslime:

If we had not dismantled our state by our own hands and elevated tribal affiliation above the common good things would've been different. Blaming others for eating from a buffet that you've invited them to is ridiculous. We served our country on a plate.

Best believe if the roles were reversed, we would've done the same :manny:

You might think that I'm being defeatist, but there's more strength in my position than yours which basically just assigns the blame to outside forces. If we're responsible for our own mess that means we can do something about it.

I do think that we will eventually get our shyt together, but the people are going to have to lose confidence in the current crop of leaders and demand more.

As for Farmajo, even if dude is a huge failure in the end, the fact that the people of Mogadishu and other parts of the South voted for a member of the "enemy tribe" because they loved his message is a tiny glimmer of hope I guess. This was unthinkable a few years ago.

But there's still a long way to go :wow:
