My brother in law gave me the run down. He heavily fukks with this new president. Says his parents and everyone back home are feeling the changes and are happy af that there is a new Oromo president. He said this new president's political game is on tight and even settled the nile dispute with Egypt!
I don't know if he's a puppet for the elites but I am hearing that he is very ambitious and trying to fix things internally and externally. The Horn of Africa needs this imo.
Yea its over for West Africa.
East and Southern Africa gonna carry the continent tho in my opinion.
While Abiy is making great changes and this is an amazing time for the Horn, let's not forget about the multiple Human Rights violations that continue to go on. Abiy is EPRDF and has been since the beginning. He is former military and worked a the INSA (ET NSA) so he is really deep in the game. While he is a true reformer and people like Lema, Gedu, and Demeke are all trying to change the country through their respective parties, I doubt TPLF is just gonna chill in the cut and let this happen peaceefully. They been a little too quiet for my liking.
A couple of things:
1) Nigeria is hurtling towards the "road to Kinshasa" Let's Talk Afro-Geopolitics II: The Future of the Nigerian State
2) East African countries have an advantage over West Africa due to their proximity to India, China and SE Asia.
3) Ghana will never become a 'great power'. It could become a middle income country in my lifetime. It's development path is strewn with the usual problems including this:
A racing start in spite of the rocky finances | Article | Africa Confidential
4) The population boom in West Africa will undermine states. Especially as escape routes to Europe close up (rise of right-wing politics in that continent).
