Thanks for all the links I’ll read them after work. I’m just bummed to hear that. I feel like black Africans just need at least one stable black economic power that can trade and bolster other black African economies. Obviously I can imagine with the whole migrant crisis things are gonna get tense in West Africa.

There are countries, which in theory, have the potential to do that. Nigeria, DR Congo, South Africa, Ethiopia. But it's unlikely to occur in our lifetimes. The leadership of all of those countries, except Ethiopia, says it all.

This is where trusting your fellow African becomes critical. Ports are the end-game for East Africa. Industrialization aside, these port disputes, land-grabs, and lack of regulatory bodies makes this difficult, to say the least.

Also y'all need to stop giving up on West Africa.

Why? I'm eager to be dissuaded from this opinion. I really am.

An overwhelming number of the continent's scientific advancements, working institutions, and historical empires rests in that region. It's conjecture to say, but I don't see how a place that routinely produces the smartest ppl on earth is going to completely fail down the road. Or maybe I don't want to see it,

Leadership is the problem, but we've seen humanistic disasters turn heel with proper leadership before. It can be done, fam.

Horrible idea. No African country wants to lose their sovereignty. ECOWAS is decent as it is:what:.

Senegambia failed.

Ghana-Mali-Guinea also failed to come to fruition.

Dip is onto something here tho :jbhmm:

West African states need to develop a region wide freedoms to work, travel, study; a customs union, a uniform system of contract law and commercial arbitration, recognition of licenses and academic degrees etc.

Perhaps not new countries but share the same economic environment...

I see what he means here. That's going to be discussed in 2020 starting with the Eco adoption.

I felt the same way when I first found out. This will mess up currency values of all countries involved. I don't like it either.

It would also make other economies really dependent on the market price of oil, given Nigeria's dependence on oil. It may make it harder for smaller countries to export goods. I don't think many advocates of the Eco are looking at the problems created by the Euro and are drawing up preventative measures.
