Props. Will definitely be moving some funds from BB&T or Navy Federal over.

It really depends on the religion. Christrian oromo do tend marry christian amaharas.

Nah that’s false, religion legit doesn’t matter in some cases. Finding a Christian Amhara woman with an Oromo Muslim man isn’t impossible.

Anyways, this is cool I guess. The diaspora is trying to spread its wings. Would’ve been cool to see it done jointly with Industrial Bank given that they are the Black owned Bank in DC and AAs have historically helped Ethiopians establish things i.e. Ethiopian Airlines.

The Christian amhara woman most likely converted than. A Muslim man only can marry Muslim woman or one who converts

Some convert, some don’t. I don’t know if it’s the same now but Muslims and Christians intermingled a lot more than it seems. It makes sense though because for the most part Muslims comprise the majority of the Horn of Africa region so odds are a Christian will end up with a Muslim. The Jews were actually the most isolated group out of those three faiths.

Yeah exactly, I personally have family like this but the kids actually ended up Christian though their last names are Muslim. My brother actually went to an Islamic school as a child even though he’s always been Orthodox Christian and still is. There’s a healthy respect between the faiths in Ethiopia which fosters an overall peaceful relationship. It’s not perfect, and the trend of “Islamic extremism” is changing the character of Ethiopian Muslims.

But its still a very interesting relationship between Ethiopian Muslims and Christians they are actually quite tolerant towards one another. In Ethiopia, some Muslims observe Orthodox Christmas and Christians observe the Prophet’s Birthday because it’s a national holiday.

Again, I wish the Jews had been afforded this type of tolerance. Would’ve been nice to still have all three faiths together en masse.

Which of the two groups is deeper in Silver Springs, MD - Nigerians or Ethiopians?

Ethiopians by far, they took that shyt over. I couldn’t tell you where Naijas are most concentrated at you tend to find a few of them everywhere.

Silver Spring is still an ethnically diverse community but from when I lived there the numbers jumped way high because of that Diversity Visa program they had going on some years back. That’s one of the biggest factors for how so many Ethiopians and other Black immigrants ended up in America.

Were these Orthodox-observing Muslims recent generation converts? Because I don't know ANY Muslim that will raise their kid Christian, and vice versa.

You need to actually be in the DMV to get a feel for this before passing it off as “ducktales”. Our Ethiopian brethren are actually our brethren for the most part. Can’t comment on LA or anywhere else but as someone who’s actually from here, you’ll see a good amount of interaction and business engagement between Ethiopians and African Americans, especially in both Silver Spring and DC itself.
Ethiopians selling nikkas shyt at a store in NW by Howard University is business engagement. :mjlol:
