THAT'S FINE AS LONG AS THE MINIMUM WAGE IS KEPT CONSISTENT WITH INFLATION, BROTHER! MCDONALD'S EMPLOYEES ARE BEING PAID LESS THAN THEY WERE IN THE PAST BECAUSE OF THE CURRENCY'S VALUE DROPPING, DUDE! THAT'S WHY THESE PEOPLE ARE STRIKING, MEAN GENE!

I understand that! but no job at McDonalds is worth getting paid $15 an hour for. That's not a fair wage for the job at hand, BROTHER!!

I never said get loans. I know for a fact that the less money you make, the more grants you're eligible for and the grants will cover your education costs. So miss me with that.

The whole point is that a minimum wage job that requires minimum skills DESERVES to have a minimum wage attached to it. I don't understand anyone that would apply to a McDonalds job with the thought that it would or should cover all your household finances. That just doesn't make good sense.

At the same time if it meant taking out a loan to better position yourself for higher paying jobs, then I could understand.

Once again, simple thinking. You don't apply for a grant with a letter saying, "I'm broke." There are conditions that must be met. Including academic aptitude, extra curricular activities, demographics, locations etc.

As to your second point, typing is not a complex skill. Should secretaries should be subject to minimum wage? Bus drivers? Librarians? Typical office staff? You could train the average teenager to do your typical entry level white collar job. Should the minimum wage be lowered across the board to match your subjective definition? If there was no minimum wage law you would most likely state they shouldn't be paid at all or be subject to the company's mercy. Picking cotton took no skill either, and they let them know too.

LMAO how can someone say there is no value in working hard when they never work hard? School grades are shyt. Work ethic is shyt yet you DESERVE a higher salary or a fair chance in life? Why?

Who said that?

As for work ethic, I bet a fry slave works much harder than your average office drone.

FIFTEEN 2013 DOLLARS IS EQUAL TO $2.87 IN 1973, BROTHER! YOU ARE REACTING EMOTIONALLY TO THE SOUND OF $15 AND NOT CONSIDERING THE MATH BEHIND THE INFLATION RATE, DUDE! AND THAT'S BEFORE CONSIDERING THE COST OF LIVING RISING, MEAN GENE!

College kids? :comeon:

Anyway.....so you're saying these wages are okay because the government will foot the bill for the difference? Along with the student loans? :mindblown: Yet the same people who look down at these low wage workers want to cut or end these same sort of entitlements they highlight as a lifeline? :mindblown:

People can't even keep their stances consistent from thread to thread. Retta has stated many times she's against borrowing and debt, so how they hell is a poor fry cook supposed to go to school? Now your stance is difference because it fits a particular argument in this thread? :belip:

So, once again, why shouldn't you pay these workers a living wage (not even $15 an hour, stop focusing on that number) instead of relying on the government to do your job? That's a handout, right? Corporate welfare. :mjpls:

When did i say the wages are "okay" ? point it out to me.

and yes, College kids do this type of shyt all the time, so don't act like it's not happening.

I'm saying, if you're in that situation.. There are options to help you make it til you can do better....shyt many jobs even offer to pay for (partially or even in full) for your education if you maintain a certain GPA.

my stance never changed.

I already said that NYC should've followed San Francisco's route, and mandated a minimum wage for the entire city, to compensate for the high cost of living.... but they're too worried about guns, cigarettes, big sodas and stopping n frisking blacks and latinos.

You've clearly never applied for financial aid but pell grants and loans are all awarded through the same FAFSA application.

Yes, everyone can learn to type but not everyone can type more than 45wpm. As a secretary you're typically required to type that fast, so I can understand being paid a higher salary because of that. At the same time secretaries and librarians aren't high paying jobs either. Bus drivers typically require CDL licensing which is typically acquired through some type of training, so yeah they deserve a higher wage, which they receive.

The point is that there is nothing stopping anyone from receiving the training they need to acquire a higher paying job but if they choose not to take that initiative then they are subject to jobs were skills requirements and pay are minimal.

:why: ELITE!?!? I'm not even talking about myself. I haven't brought up my compensation. My simple principle in all of this is that you earn the pay you able to convince someone to pay you.

fukk I look like picketing(not getting payed mind you) to protest the compensation that I AGREED to earn for my 40 hours of work.

There are people in this thread arguing that these workers can't do anything better for themselfs, that they lack the characteristics to attain more. My arguement is that these people can be whatever they want if they just tried.

I don't wanna hear shyt, I was 18 years old sleeping on the 6 train, showering at the Y, and showing up to work at Best Buy everyday to work my shift. You don't need any economic advantages or and education to continuously make progress in life. I don't knock people who work fast food, but not in my lifetime have you been able to maintain in NYC flipping burgers.. So argue if you want too but Wendy's and White Castle are not giving these nikkas a cost of living adjustment..

Do your time, use the experience and move up in pay somewhere else!!

reminds me of my old job. they tried to "promote" me, but it didn't entail any pay increase :wtf:.

so I was doing more work and getting equal pay. which in my world is taking a pay cut. didn't go on strike. just fixed up my resume and grinded til I found a better, higher paying job.
