Low Coli standards make IWW a classic. but if you actually care to understand why people thought it was a sophomore jinx, there are plenty of reasons that back it up (even if you don't agree)

Name them...

a) I've already named them in a previous thread (can't remember where but it's on here somewhere on The Coli)

b) 99% of Coli convos on here are a total waste of my time. Y'all go mute or deflect. Unless I'm sure that won't happen, I don't even bother anymore.

I'm sure you can find good reasoning if you just google.

Can you believe back then they were actually trying to say iww was a sophomore jinx album that nas failed to deliver on?!?! :what:

It wasn't really called a sophmore jinx. It was just called commercial. He replaced Preme, Xp, Pete Rock, Kamaal, with the hardcore hip-hop non-approved hitmaking Trackmasters .Remember the divide back then was serious.

I don't deflect at all, I wanted to read your opinions but it is what it is.

Take It In Blood in a landslide...Theres other amazing songs on the album, but that song in particular is just pure magical. I can't even make sense of it.....:damn:. Every time I listen to it, I gotta rewind it back atleast 5-10 times. Its like hearing god in audio form.....the beat sound like it was made in heaven.
You can tell that shyt spoke to Nas and he had the:lawd: while recording this. This was his GOAT display of rapping imo.

A lot of people? That explains why Illmatic has way more acclaim, right?

To me, IWW is just a step down in all categories. Mainly production, which is my biggest beef. The flow is less sincere and the rhymes aren't even as visionary either.

To each his own.

nah

Nas was rambling on that.

nah

what story was he telling? Great song though.

nah. Is it really that novel when Organized Konfusion did something similar two years before?

And even if it were, I don't listen to "concepts." I listen to music.

eh. song's cool but he's got tons of better songs.

Never liked this song. It's such a step back for Nas. Reheating Whodini leftovers for a typical 95 NY radio sound.

Song isn't all the way terrible (especially by modern standards), but cmon breh -- do you really catch a high listening to this shyt compared to Nas Is Like? or Memory Lane? or Made You Look?

If I Ruled The World sounds like a limp joke compared to those joints.

:russell: RnB beat

I never listen to this song.

Nas is way more than just rhymes. I think y'all conveniently forget this.

His voice is A1 and his beat selection at times is A1. Illmatic is an album full of A1 beats. So when a dude like Nas debuts spitting A1 shyt on A1 beats, then starts spitting A2 shyt on C grade beats (Watch Dem nikkas), I'm not a fan because I'm disappointed? :rudy:

how much of a follower are you?

whatever works for you breh :umad:

I look forward to your response
