I can't even play the first game. Dropped it after 15 minutes.

It's a familiar world with a familiar story. We know what's going to happen. We know who the villain is and how it's going to end.

16 was a little darker than FF is used to but it was still afraid to get mature like how they completely ignored the concept of race in the story or how the main villain was just evil to be evil.

A lot of these Japanese games got this problem where the overall writing hasn't grown up with the audience.

I never thought about it like that but you're right. Try playing any modern JRPG and it's a struggle. The plot in many of these games feels like a Saturday morning cartoon made for children. It isn't mentally stimulating for an intelligent adult with a fully formed brain.

It's like trying to watch wrestling at 40 years old.

The only two I would classify as that are the two NieR games.

The SMT series is one while not story driven does have philosophical elements to them. Also, to add to that, the last 3 Persona series focus on major themes of death, truth & rebellion. I don't think they are overly complex or deep, but their simplicity is what makes it work. Same thing with Metaphor.

But being thought-provoking and deep isn't the appeal of JRPGs because like Shounen manga it is meant to have mass appeal more than anything else. Best to be looking at other genres or honestly books if you're looking for that kind of story.

i put 35 hour into and the open world stuff is just bad

Also it feels like a vacation sim a lot of time

going from beach resort to the amusement park date...to having to participate in a chocoboo race ...

I only played the demo of the og ...i love the characters and the acting but i feel like it spining it wheels .

the open zones feel worst then ubisoft

the rewards are not great

should let you earn some cool skins or new weapons...

Open zones/world in 16 and Rebirth were both really bad.

16 had nothing outside MMORPG quality side quests, and Rebirth had an over abundance of inconsequential Ubisoft checklists.

“The second entry, FFVII Rebirth, has been doing very well on both PS5 and PC. I know some fans have expressed concerns, but please rest assured, we’ll be able to deliver a proper, high-quality third installment.”

Hamaguchi also says that work on the next title is progressing smoothly. “Development is going extremely well, and the game is shaping up nicely. A lot of the content is already playable, and the game’s direction and form are firmly set in place. Right now, the team is...

There wasn't a doubt in part 3 happening but it's been pretty clear from how the company behaved that part 2 didn't do what they wanted it to. Final Fantasy XVI at least got a single sales milestone very early on. This is a successful product that a public own and traded company put out but they've never given shareholders any tangible info on what it's sold.

In a PR interview saying something is selling good has no real meaning. When the company reports earnings and they say sales and profits didn't meet expectations that's real meaning.

This line has been grossly misinterpreted and keeps getting repeated online.

This was the "real meaning" straight from their report. Not clickbait articles or reporting. Those two tweets explains it with proof. People just will believe what they want to believe even in the face of actual evidence/data being right there. Nothing shown above is opinionated. Also the sales milestone thing is not indicative of whether a game is successful or not. You can't seriously think FFVII Rebirth was less popular than FFXVI and sold worse because of no official sales milestone.

I hear there was a lot of content for this game. That's unfortunate.

May as well dumb it down and drop it for the PS4
