Glorious that the Coli didn't shut down before the game came to Xbox.

I am curious how Rebirth runs on Switch 2. 1080P 30 FPS is actually a pretty good port given the hardware for the Switch 2. Though Rebirth is more demanding.

Given how prices are going up for hardware, even adding how in Japan in particular the value of the yen is doing in Japan. Could see Switch 2 Port of Rebirth and Pt. 3 could be a big factor in Pt. 3's success in Japan. Also, to add, it is clear Pt. 1 did much better than Rebirth in terms of sales with the strategy Square did.
This is conjecture, nobody knows that. Part 1 sold 7 million after 3 years across PS4/PS5 and PC. Prior to the sales milestones people were assuming Remake didn't really sell well. It didn't drop on Steam until 2022.

Rebirth has been out for for less than 2 years, and released on PC about a year after the PS5 release and there hasn't been an official milestone release. We didn't know the sales of Remake until 3 years later. There was no strategy difference with Remake and Rebirth's release plans. The only reason people say this is because of the misleading "sales did not meet expectations" headline.

Rebirth has been selling well according to Hamaguchi.

"The second entry, FFVII Rebirth, has been doing very well on both PS5 and PC. I know some fans have expressed concerns, but please rest assured, we'll be able to deliver a proper, high-quality third installment."

This is not true.

It sold 5 million copies within the first 4 months. It didn't get another update until 3 years later, when it sold another 2 million.

Yeah I forgot to add that, we didn't know the 7 million sales mark until 3 years later.

What I will say is it's kind of premature to say Rebirth didn't sell well based off of no numbers and just assuming that no milestone given means it didn't sell well. I think some people are grossly underestimating the sales by now and assume it's only sold 1~2 million or something.

Reason I say so is because I refuse to believe that FF XVI sold 3 million in one week but then Rebirth, the highly anticipated second entry to the remake trilogy just somehow struggled to hit 3 million on an even bigger install base about one year later. Makes no sense honestly. Nobody can't tell me that XVI and Clive was way more anticipated than part 2.

Covid bump helped alot.

Next Animal Crossing aint doing the same numbers as the one during Covid
That is true.

PS5 is basically even with sales of PS4 if we only look at the number of months the PS5 has been out. So it can't be the case of a large install base. Also, I feel many people learning it will be a trilogy are like, Ehhhh, kindly notify me once it is fully out. Playing the remake for the first time was a dream come true for many fans. They felt they had to try it if they were massive fans of the OG. Of course you do have the story be polarizing in aspects.

Also, more gamers have moved to PC over the years. I do suspect Pt. 3 to be more successful than Rebirth. Though matching Remake's success would be unrealistic at this point.

:comeon: And how did that work out for the other dozens of gamepass titles this year?

  • Avowed - flopped
  • Outerworlds 2 - flopped
  • COD - flopped
  • South of Midnight - flopped
  • Keeper - Flopped
  • Doom The Dark Ages - flopped
  • Gears remastered - flopped
Why didn’t the gamepass word of mouth help those games enter the top 20 for the year?
Hold up Doom is a dope game Duck:birdman:

It's not just no milestones it's them saying their company profit performance didn't meet expectations in shareholder reports surrounding the game and the drastic shift in multiplatform strategy also surrounding it.

I don't doubt that the games sold several million copies but I also don't doubt that the budget for the game was really high and whatever it sold came up short. I mean the likelihood is that the game as a sequel performed notably worst than the previous title and putting out those numbers would be unflattering so they sat on them.

This is a company that had the Tomb Raider reboot sell 3.6 million out the gate and say that wasn't good enough.

I see they updated the franchise numbers

About a year ago it was at 195.

I highly doubt 12 million units of that were all from old games like the pixel remaster or something. The narrative that XVI/Rebirth sold poorly is just conjecture from lack of data and Squares nebulous PR.

There's a difference between saying something sold poorly and that it didn't meet expectations though.

Companies don't want to put out unflattering numbers on products. They'll just bury the numbers and avoid talking about it.

They put out the total series numbers and not the most recent main line title numbers because they knew people would say exactly what you're saying. Companies always do what looks better.
