One thing I haven’t seen people mention as my concerns about the future releases continue (despite me loving this game)...
I’m on chapter 13 and my elemental materia are all on stage 3 and some already completely mastered. This game also has new game plus so you could relatively easily completely master all the available materia before the second release comes out. In the OG, I don’t remember you running around with a ton of fully mastered materia throughout the entire game. What’s going to happen in the future releases? Are we just going to be overpowered as hell the entire time? Are they going to do something insanely stupid like make you start over each release, or maybe nerf you each time by starting you off with only a few materia at a certain level and making you re-learn some of them? I feel like they very likely painted themselves into a corner allow you to take your materia up to the mastered levels in this release.
Side note: I’m not trying to be funny or brag but I’m seeing a lot of comments on here of people struggling with this game. I haven’t had any difficulty at all worth mentioning the way I’ve seen here. Are people not setting up their characters correctly or something? Every enemy has had a glaring weakness except for maybe the hell house (which is more of a fight of patience than anything). Each fight favors certain characters and elements. If you’re going into every fight using only cloud I would suppose that would be where most of the L’s are coming from. You also have to be aware of what types of enemies are in each area and adjust your materia set up to include the most stagger possibilities. Stay on top of your other characters and keep them active at all times. I’ve been melting through enemies left and right. It’s not a cake walk, but i stay on my toes and cycle through characters and manage their atb and health bars carefully. That keeps me on the up side of most battles.

My guess is they mostly just make you start over every release but let you carry over certain rare/special items if you have a saved game. :yeshrug:

I mean they're not going to release a game that only people who beat Part 1 can play. Nor would they start you out at such a high level the game is a cakewalk.

But I agree, I just beat Hell House last night and that was the only fight I found somewhat difficult (took me five tries). I've rarely died in the game otherwise.

We talked about it in here, most people are under the assumption that “your” characters won’t carry over to the next game, unless enemies scale to you or they break the “normal” caps the original game had, I thought it was weird the lvl cap is 50, which is halfway to max lvl from the first 10% of the game.

They liable to have Yuffie steal all of your materia or at least all your maxed out ones or even just a random selection of them at the start of the new game and you spend a wealth of time trying to find her to get them back, only to find that she's lost/sold them all.

All of that is stupid. If they really make us grind out the same materia 3 times it’s gonna be whack. This type of thing works (sort of) for yakuza because each release is 100% it’s own story. It’s not left on cliff hangars as a part of a much larger story. Each game is in the same universe but each game could be played on its own completely and you wouldn’t be missing out.
Final fantasy 7 is one large story. Starting over each time interrupts the experience and I think will make each release feel like you have to go through a list of redundant chores before you can finally enjoy the game. I get that you can’t go into each game overpowered, but they could have capped this games materia at level 1 star or 2 for some materia and just have you start the game with rolled over items and some perks that way you don’t alienate new players. I would have been fine with all the level 1 elements throughout this entire game and with each release raise the cap 1 or 2 levels. This episodic thing just doesn’t feel like the best way...or at least the way they’ve set it up in terms of pacing. I know I’m complaining a lot about I game I love, but I really want it to succeed because so far this game has been amazing, and this story means a lot to me as a person that loved the OG. I just don’t see how they stick the landing for the next few games.

So my 1st guess is that stuff wont carry over, I'd think it would if there wasn't a console gap... Does PSN have cloud save backups?

If for some reason you can carry over stuff, I think yuffie is going to yank them for the majority of the next game. You'll probably start with all your stuff, lose it 10 hours in and not get it back for another 8 hours or so
