Chuck Berry is the only one that can arguably be discussed with JB out of your line up.

They are all icons. No doubt about that.

Chuck Berry is the father of rock and roll. James Brown is the grandfather of soul and father of funk.

Jimi was amazing. Cats wanted to be him or like him but he didn't define or redefine a genre. Stevie of course amazing and in all aspects, writing, composing, playing, singing. All the awards and accolades but once again he didn't define or redefine the genre. He was just really damn good, he had his own sound and nobody could touch him.

bruh what? :heh: Jimi Hendrix laid the foundation for modern rock guitar and was the prototype for guitar heroes like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, SRV, Yngwie Malmsteen, etc. That’s a whole genre unto itself.

anyone playing guitar with a wah wah pedal and heavy distortion (which is basically almost every rock, pop and r&b guitarist) can thank Jimi Hendrix

I’d actually argue that no artist in the last 100 years has had a bigger influence on or re defined their genre of music more than Hendrix. Dude is singlehandedly responsible for the last 50 years of rock music. Punk rock, hard rock, blues rock, psychedelic rock, grunge and heavy metal can all be traced back to Jimi. He had a very heavy influence on funk music as well.

How big was he in the blacc community and how big was he period

Was he ever bigger than Michael Jackson. What about prince

To tell the truth James Brown was old
Til Eric and Ra came out wit 'I Got Soul'

No Google. I Got Soul ain't even by James Brown. Feel free to @ me if I'm wrong

But the concept is real. I wouldn't say anyone was bumping James Brown, P Funk or any of that Classic R and B before Hip Hop dug it up and put bolts in its neck

Not to say NO ONE played that stuff, but I seen an interview with George Clinton. The sales of his old shyt SKYROCKETED after being sampled and used for 90s Hip Hop

You're welcome

You're both right. I overlooked that because so many people gave Jimi his flowers especially after his untimely death, its almost blinding to see how he carved out those genres. People give him his props and when like he's the one of the go to guys when cats say they want to play guitar. Kind of like a be like Mike.

I don't think it's mainstream to understand JBs impact because that style of music isn't as mainstream as Jimi. Maybe JB is too black for white people or too proud. Regardless of that people in the industry know and understand.

I agree with you both
