4 to the floor bass got very outdated, that's the 70's-80's sound. Double time, complex high hats add syncopation, you don't need swing if your beat is syncopated. 4 to the floor bass only makes sense if you're using an actual drumset, not a drum machine
The problem is producers using generic hi hat patterns, instead of experimenting coming up with new ones

Not really, on that last note....Producers try and humanise sampled shyt to add swing and emulate that sound....Zapp and them were using machines and live drums....
sound ever. Bomb Squad's beats aged better than a lot of G-funk. Some of it is obviously timeless but outside of a handful of people it sounds extremely dated and generic. A lot of it didn't age well. and im sure we'd all agree on the projects that did age well
