I became a Gibbs fan because of introspective and storytelling songs like world so cold, queen, how we do, Neverending cycle, homeboys girlfriend, heaven can wait, etc.

That was one of his original appeals.

The opportunity to rap some hard hitting heartfelt shyt was there. One of my favorites on here but man Gibbs should’ve spit that shyt on “Ensalada”

I like Larry's verse but then again I'm used to his style. His low energy threw me off at first but the subject matter is so dark and depressing I think it fits the somber vibe. And he's actually on beat :yeshrug:

It's a very visual verse to me though. In 8 bars he gave you a day in the life of a pimp with his ho. Then he ended it by recruiting a new ho to the roster. If you try to look at it as more of a cutscene/interlude to Freddie's performance I think it hits better:hubie:

But I understand Larry's flow isn't for everybody:manny:

album is a classic to me
Alc is probably my favorite producer at the moment, dude has been on a multi year run consistently putting out S tier work. Somehow he still feels underrated
JID is officially on my radar wit his verse
I heard someone say this album made them shelve the Clipse album and I have to agree

2Chains really outshined him on Life Os Beautiful with his mic presence, flow and personality unlike June who was easily the weak link on that album
i mentioned this album in a group chat of associates (not friends) and dudes were saying the the opposite of this. I like Larry June but I felt like I was in bizarro world. nikkas still undermining 2Chains in 2025 :what:. Basically everybody who replied to me was saying 2chains ruined the album, it was one them situations where shyt just sounds so crazy you go :hubie: cause it's not even worth arguing about if that's how this particular group feels. Just know I can't take them serious on certain topics

One of the criticisms I have is that this album makes it clear he is 100% fully committed to the bit/character. Rabbit, Freddy Kane, whatever. Smooth gangsta/cokehead pimp bars nonstop. Dissing rappers who literally man handled you in real life is telling. Same with dissing baby mamas and hoes after multiple hoes exposed him in real life. It's like none of that matters, here are some dope beats and fantasy raps. And the fact that the album is really good makes this even weirder to me personally.

Even the attempts at introspection on this album sound like they're in-character.

That's actually what makes Gibbs dope because this is who he really is.

It's not a character. If you can rap about your actual experiences and people think it's theatre, that means you're doing something right, lol. If you know bro's history in Gary and what's happened to this dude, you'd see that what he's been speaking about on records for almost 20 years is like therapy for him. What makes him so effective as an MC, is that he actually lived the sh*t he speaks about.

Where he differs from other dudes, is that he doesn't try to glorify anything about his past. He speaks about how he hated things he did, and how he wants to change but struggles with being a better person. Dude doesn't get the credit he deserves for being vulnerable in raps, without compromising on making it sound dope.

I've been listening to Gibbs for a long ass time and just assumed breh was telling ducktales about the gang/thug shyt lol. I'll take your word for it tho. The thing that really made me think he was faking was that ESGN fiasco where he was getting extorted. He ultimately got away from those nikkas but that was a weird ass time.

The whole ESGN thing was his attempt at starting his own Rocafella, he said.

He said he wanted to do a Dynasty type album, with dudes he grew up with. But those dudes were actual gang and hustle cats who he shouldn't have been trying to do business with, lol. Some of them are still around, but they were holding him back. And they couldn't rap either, so that move didn't make sense to keep pursuing. Sometimes your people just need to be in the background. You can't put everybody on.

Not an “ahah” moment but this truly makes me realize that this hiphop shyt be really elementary sometimes. Like why do we need alter egos and gimmick personalities. Can nikkas just rap. Or does the audience need it, so they do it.
All the greats do it

Nasty nas/escobar
Kung fu kenny
Frank white
Slim shady
Makaveli
Rabbit

characters, that frankly, are the corniest versions of themselves

I feel like this with so many tracks on this joint. Alchemist is in such a pocket, when I throw these songs on in the background at work, all I want to do is go home and start tapping pads on the MPC.

About an hour ago I told one of the homies that this album has me wanting to step my game up. Alchemist killed this :wow:

I still like Alf 1 more but I'll give this more time. The 2nd half doesn't flow as well for me for some reason :jbhmm:I enjoy the album though

For me this is one of the few projects with alchemist where the rapper outperforms him. Only Roc marciano and prodigy accomplished this outside of Freddie on this shyt. Spitta on covert coupe comes CLOSE, but alc edges out currensy just barely on that one imo….. every other joint project it’s alc….
