When Has real talent ever been something that was marketed and sold in hiphop?

If you want talented artist back at the fore front then why don't you support them.

Record labels are only meeting a demand.

who has ever been run out of rap for being wack?

wake up call to who what?

When has lyricism ever actually determined success in hiphop.

:childplease: Every new generation rapper you dikkride flops and you come out the gate with a million excuses.

Look he needs a few million selling singles to be like flo-rida. He doesn't do that

I never said sales = quality but it does equal success . I can't sit here and listen to a bunch of spin about how him selling 50,000 is a success to interscope . Puffy and Ross didn't cosign him for this type of sales they didn't . No one can be happy with just making their money back , it's not like French brings other components to the table . He doesn't produce or songwrite as far as I know

first lemme ask this...what is your bench for first week sale numbers?

ok so you said record sales = success right

so futures debut "Pluto" sold 40k

i think he is successful. do you think so?

i mean he got singles on the charts. all his singles on the album did well. from turn on the lights to magic to samn damn time to neva end

everyone wanna work with oh boy. right or wrong?

i dont know why you nikkas speak from the perspective of a label lmaooo

fukk them...

the artist makes they money doing other shyt

records dont sell unless your white

and thats truth

stop making excuses for that nikka

his album that dropped in march....The Block Brochure: Welcome to the Soil 3 sold 9k

that aint a flop?

so dont everything you screaming in here apply to the nikka?

Don't tell me you're dumb enough to compare an independent release to an industry release like it's a level playing ground

cause that'd just be dumb :aicmon:

So what sets the standards now? Because it seems that many cats love to switch the rules when their favorite rapper they stan catch a brick . Example Redman still make money doing shows but many people would call him flabby and sick because he hasn't put out any albums in retail since 2007

in my opinion

its about how ya reception to the streets is

record sales dont matter like that

cause the artist still gonna eat regardless

look at gucci

if he drop an album he not sellin over 60k

less at that

but he hot in the streets

he could do a show for 10k (just a average number. im postitive he get more than that cause scooter get 15)

multiply that by 4....cause im sure he do like 4 shows a week

thats 40 racks a week.

its all about building ya fan base and makin music

French Montana came a long way from being lil arab running around filming rappers who today would kill to be in his spot.

But seeing how he was talking about him being hotter than 2 chainz before 2 chainz dropped his album :dead:.
Then again it's like dude above said, why would you call something a flop when you're not even engaging in the business that you are discussing (hiphop business, as consumers).

But the nikka still paid though :patrice:
So? :childplease:
If the record industry was still depending on Revenue from albums sales to make money they would have needed a federal bailout by now.

You are an idiot.
But French isn't going on big worldwide tours and hes not selling millions of singles so maybe they make their money back or maybe they don't . Tyga isn't eating that good and he's been on before French now we supposed to think French got some artist friendly deal .:childplease: he's signed to puffy and rich Ross for god sakes .
:dafukk: You think record labels care about record sales?

The record industry made a profit last year.

They have improved their business model.
They did but again French isn't exactly a big in demand rapper so hows this relate? There have been artists like Carly Rae jepsen that sold way more singles than French and she still flopped .
Bruh got singles for days on this album. He'll be aight
He better hope the weeknd can save him :lupe:
grown ass men mad lmaoooo

shyt is embarassing
why are we mad ? We being reasonable

How you figure when all of them features is free and he getting beats for favors?

Terrible rapper he is but you crazy if you don't think the biz was in order.

Were his videos free? Was his promotion free? Was it free to manufacture the cd's? Was it free to distribute those cd's to the stores? Was it free to get those radio spins? How in the fukk do you people think record labels stay in business? From flopping artists show money :pachaha:

E-40 put out 3 albums last year. You show me 1 nikka that has major distribution that flops as much as you say E-40 does that continues to get major distribution. Obviously E-40 is recouping and staying in the black. If he didn't he would be where Chingy is now.

He's really not.

Cats see dudes in chains and on TV and swear these people are paid. The homie just shipped a ton of records and sold a very small portion of them. That means he's in heavy debt. Puff, Universal and Interscope are gonna want every single penny back from that distribution, promotion and marketing. It's safe to say that he's in a 360 deal, because that's all majors offer these days. That means they get more than half of every dollar he makes doing shows, merchandise and for features.

I'd be surprised if dude can pay his rent or mortgage a few months from now, to be perfectly honest.
