Wow, just now hearing about this. Used to go to the one in Manhattan Beach often. I could picture them struggling though even before Covid. It was a huge store that sold way too many different products on the side of their electronic items. Good competition for places like Best Buy in their heyday. Damn its an end of an era:mjcry:

Amazon needs to be broken up like the old Bell company.
I believe the government will eventually get involved with them.

Those smaller chain stores and mom and pop spots can't compete with them at all.

Before to long it's just going to be them and Walmart based on the trajectory of how things are currently going.

We got P.C. Richards over here...:birdman::ufdup:
All frys were literally the same size as Costco’s Think about that for a moment. Full of electronics and computer parts. Had a food court in the middle of the store. Any and every single part they had

So that’s why no one was answering the phones when I tried calling their stores last year :ohhh:

I tried three different stores multiples times and never got an answer.

Pretty much.

Unless you know the extension of the department or manager you trying to get ahold of, you going to be waiting :francis:.

And to think that people used to think that Walmart was a problem and now someone has eclipsed them.

Yeah Amazon came on the scene and almost immediately monopolized that online shopping.

Some of these businesses also have themselves to blame. You have to keep adapting with the times.

A lot of these businesses were still keeping with that same formula from like the 80s.

They thought if they built that brick and mortar and put it in the right location that the consumer would come, but this younger generation is all about convenience and advances in technology have allowed them to be that way. It's more convenient for most people to pull out a smartphone, order stuff online, and have it sitting on their doorstep or in their mailbox 2 days later.

Shyt you can even get your take out food and groceries delivered to you now.

If places like Sears and Circuit City would have jumped on that internet wave in it's infancy they might still be around. You look these shopping malls and ish now and they are ghost towns and shells of their former self, they were popping in that late 80s to me early 2000s era though when I was coming up.

It's a so much different world in 2021 than it was in 1981. A lot of those places didn't adapt and they're paying for that now via liquidation and going out of business.

But that's not completely the case. Places like Bestbuy have an online presence and they are next on the chopping block. Amazon can undercut everyone until they are the only retailer. These other places can try to evolve all they want but unless people are willing to shop elsewhere, Amazon will win:yeshrug:

If other businesses would have jumped on that wave sooner that would have stymied some Amazon's momentum.

Amazon has gotten a huge headstart on the game now and people aren't going to move away from them simply because they are convenient and you can get their products for cheap.

Anything I can get at the traditional brick and mortar there generally is a cheaper version of on Amazon.

I'm probably in the minority of people now days but I'd still rather get my clothes, furniture, home appliances, and other goods of that nature from brick and mortar places.

Best Buy ain't going nowhere, they got the tech market on lockdown. All the shyt you see at Best Buy you ain't gone see at Walmart/Target. As far as Amazon, folks not tryna wait till their $2000 gadget ships, they picking it up on day 1

Its location dependent. Basically wealthy zip codes and neighborhoods will have big box stores like target, Best Buy, etc will they close stores in black/lower middle class areas.

Which is why the government should have stepped in long ago and prevented Amazon from becoming a problem beforehand. The thing is, why would they went the people in charge of this country (like Pelosi) are benefitting from their stock.

On another note, a lot of these companies are going to be fukked once the COVID-19 pandemic subsides. It was kind of a blessing in disguise for them in a way as selling masks helped cover their financial losses and keep them alive. Places like Gap made a lot of money selling masks which you could create from leftover clothing, so what are they going to do when they aren't in as high of demand?

A lot of companies didn't truly invest in their online infrastructure until they had no other choice but to with the government shutdown. Essentially playing catch up and fighting a losing battle because of it.

Most of these places were fukked beforehand and now COVID-19 has only accelerated their downfall. Rent prices for brick and mortar stores are only making matters worse.
