Gotta post this just because. If you aren't familiar with Wax Only series or the premise, this is a top 3 episode IMO. They play samples from famous albums and then play the song, so you can hear how the producer made it. If you aren't into how beats are made, this video right here is the type of shyt that might change your whole perspective and turn you into a beat nerd.

There are so many on here that are just mind blowing. Even though Premier is past his prime, he will always have an argument for being the GOAT just based on what he did on this album. I knew some of these, but Royalty, BI vs Friendship, and Militia I hadn't heard the samples for, and they straight up blew my mind :mindblown:

Damn. So this was just a one off track?

No forthcoming album?

:mjcry:

Got my hopes up so high. So beautiful hearing new Guru over Premier, and just like that it's over.

:to:
There's really no album?

Man, especially if there's no album I think having Cole on here was not the right call. I hate to say that.

In that Sway interview Preem says "nah, this is just a single." And he told the whole story of how he got the sample cleared, Guru's family giving him a portion of Guru's ashes before he created the track, him crying in the studio trying to recreate that magic, etc. It definitely did not seem as if Premier is sitting on a treasure trove of unheard vocals to make an entire album worth of Gang Starr music. And I'm sure alot ofnthat has to do with bytch ass Solar.

That fukking garbage ass no talent having weirdo really fukked up music history taking advantage of Guru in his later years like he did and trying to bury the Gang Starr name. :pacspit:

As far as J Cole. I never got into his music. Couldn't name you 3 songs of his. But he did the track justice. It was a dope verse but I also feel it wasn't anything a dozen or so cats from the era of Gang Starr couldn't have done. It was a nice bridge between then and now like Preemo explained to get him on there.

Be thankful he went with Cole, cuz one of his other choices initially was Drake

If I ever hear that fukking clown defiling a Gang Starr song spitting some simp shyt that somebody wrote for him in between Guru's voice and Premier's scratches :scust:.......

What about this article by Josiah Hughes, Published Dec 10, 2010

"Earlier this year, rapper Guru (née Keith Edward Elam) passed away after a year-long battle with cancer. Best known as the rapper for Gang Starr, his other half DJ Premier has revealed that a posthumous Gang Starr album could be on the way.

Speaking with XXL [via 2DopeBoyz], Premier revealed that he already has at least five unreleased Gang Starr tracks in his possession, while there are other artists in Europe who have seven or eight songs with Guru rapping on them. They've given Premier the vocal tracks, and he plans to spin them into Gang Starr gold.

"It's songs he did with [the European artists] and they never finished it and they said I can have them," Premier said. "They reached out and were like, As long as you're doing it. You can have the vocals. They are all brand new, from like a year and a half ago. I listened to them and I'll make them shyts sound like we were together. Well, we will be together because spiritually, he's with me for the rest of my life."

Premier also revealed plans for a behind-the-scenes film documenting the iconic duo. "I'm putting together a Gang Starr DVD because I've been filming since 1989," he said. "I did all the filming until 1993. Then I started bringing guys with me. I have hundreds and hundreds of tapes of me and Guru arguing in the airport. Him and Shug fighting. Guru tried fighting everyone. Now, you look at it and it's like, Damn, I miss that."

As previously reported, Premier has also teamed up with Pete Rock for an upcoming collaborative album."

There should be more than the single on the way but seeing that we had to wait almost 10 years for the single, I'm concerned. I'm ready for the album!! According to the article, he had 5 unreleased tracks and we assume that Family and Loyalty was a new track using the vocals from the European artist. There should much more to come.

I'd take that with about 5 buckets of salt. I love DJ Premier, he's the greatest to ever do this behind the boards. But this is the same Premier who was signed to Fat Joe's Atlantic imprint to do a solo album........in like 2003.

The same Premier who promised us a Nas collabo album when they were on the cover of scratch together.....15 years ago.

The same Premier who promised us an NYGz album 100% produced by him after their first album dropped since that wasn't really their "real" album.......15 years ago.

The same Premier who was supposed to do a Premier vs Pete Rock album. The same album referenced in that article...........10 years ago.

I get it. He's a busy man with a busy schedule. But it's kinda fukked up to keep teasing your fans and the hip-hop community with "albums" and "projects" that you know damn well will never get recorded, let alone see the light of day.

All that being said, I'd love to be proven wrong and have just even one of those albums drop.

I'm just saying that if Preme is going to drop some Gang starr single, then he should have some info about the album he promised us 10 years ago.

If Kendrick spit the exact same verse word for word these dudes would be going crazy.
:yeshrug:

Cole don’t get the credit
I wouldn’t. Call me a grumpy :flabbynsick:

And I love Cole and Kendrick both, but if this is the only song and there’s no album on the way? Yeah, keep it Guru (rip) and Preem all day. No one else is needed.
