PM it to me please

OK, I finally heard the real version and honestly, Cole did just fine. I understand the purist only wanting Gang Starr/90's affiliates on the LP though. I'm sure people are nervous it will be like a "Born Again" or Pac situation where they just put in current rappers for the hell of it. With that said, I think Cole did pretty good. Hopefully this will bring some of the new generation's ears that missed out on Gang Starr. I liked that he kept the subject matter with Guru using the Diamond as a metaphor and his flow was straight. I wasn't too hot about that fast flow in the beginning but it came together good. So it worked out. But Guru's "Old" Bars still dominated and that was cool that he had 3 verses basically. He shouted out Premo on the track too. We don't know how much unreleased material Premo is working with.

Cole seemed grateful to be on the song so that was cool to hear. Overall I think it should be NaS, M.O.P., Big Shug etc type of features. And I want 100% Premo on the boards. This needs to be as close to a real Gang Starr LP as possible with Guru not being here. I also agree that there was something about Premo's production and Guru. Yes he made Legendary Records with NaS, Big and Jay etc...but Guru presence and voice just worked so much on his beats. Here's a dope Big Shug joint featuring Guru. I'm hoping for this type of sound on the album. This new record had that old school Gang Starr sound that's why it works so well and invokes memories and emotions. Also yes "The Ownerz" wasn't better than "Moment of Truth" but it was still hard.

It's nothing to do with Cole. Not knocking the quality of his verse. It's just unnecessary. Cole probably recorded that 10 years after Guru was dead. What's the sense in that?

like the poster said...the sense is that some of the newer fans who dont know Gang Starr too well will be roped in by a feature like J Cole...it might throw us off but it'll help the album reach new ears and it will also have people streaming/buying their old music that isnt known to them.

as long as it aint got a Future or Kodak feature i'll allow it

i understand your position but you have to realize that jcole is in the "gangstarr" lane as far as this era goes

its a perfect match and makes sense as its obvious gangstarr has had an influence on jcole due to his content

listen to this song premier remixed for him and tell me the lyrics arent poignant

Yup think of it as Kendrick and Paak on the Tribe album

yes perfect example as jcole wouldve fit on that album as well

J. Cole is currently the biggest rap name out right now that has respect for both the new school and old school heads. It is only common sense to have the self-proclaimed "middle child" on the track who is currently at his peak of success. Gang Starr haven't made music over 15 years. There's people who never ever HEARD of Gang Starr so it is logical to have J. Cole for those younger heads to check it out.

Song is phenomenal. :wow:

Can’t believe we haven’t had a Gangstarr song in 16 years :mjcry:

Beat is crazy but Premier has been dropping heat, people just sleep the past few years for reasons I don’t understand. :francis:

Cole’s verse was dope.

Probably going to be that amount of time to get a Mobb Deep LP at this pace.

Damn. So this was just a one off track?

No forthcoming album?

:mjcry:

Got my hopes up so high. So beautiful hearing new Guru over Premier, and just like that it's over.
