commuter rails take people from the suburbs to the city. you're making a lot of excuses not to take public transportation. you know that public transportation infrastructure is heavily invested in at the moment, precisely because the government is making an effort to wean people off of vehicular dependency.
public transportation is NOT an option for everyone. One of my co-workers drives like 75 miles to get here each way cuz he lives out in the country. he can't take public transportation if he wanted to. hell, I dont even think public transportation is an option for most people in los angeles which is crazy when u think about that.
out here, we have the CTA and the Metra. The Metra would be considered the commuter rail, but for me, it's not economically viable. it cost as much as it would for me to drive, the station is not close to my house, and it doesn't drop me off within walking distance of my office. on top of that, to take the commuter rail, I'd have to take the train downtown, then take another train to the suburbs. Plus, where I work, there aren't even sidewalks the entire way from the train station to my gig, and I work on an EXTREMELY busy street, so it's dangerous to walk.
whereas the CTA is like within 5 minutes from my crib, and the bus drops me off at the door step of my office.
