And just like a hurricane, the eye is an illusion and temporary calm before the rest of the storm comes. See 2008 and 1929.

In those years there were people that were cold chillin somewhere. Skiing and sh;t. Some families have been comfy for generations. So if you make it then you are in the calm. If yo azz is hanging on to a streetlamp in 100 mph economic winds... then you ain't made it. Most motherfukcers won't.

Meh. We shall she. Germany's been preparing to be The Next Big Thing (no Brock Lesnar :whoa:) for the past 100+ years and they've yet to truly take the next step. I know they like to think of themselves as orderly and efficient, but Jesus Christ -- either shyt or get off the pot, Deutschland.

I honestly think if America was a homogeneous white country like Scandanavia, we would have a much more robust welfare state.

I think there are a lot of programs that are not enacted because some people have this notion Black people will be the main beneficiaries and will be taking away from "Hard working Americans"

So they cut off their noses to spite their face. :heh:

Truman actually tried to pass universal healthcare and the south fought against it because they would have had to integrate their hospitals. Which was ironic because the south was the poorest region and had the worst healthcare In the nation.

I find it mind boggling that at a time when other nations are placing such a high priority on educating their workforce and not saddling the youth with debt, we seem to not give a fukk. It is sad actually.
The correlation is strong worldwide--the less you identify with a group of people, the less you support social welfare programs that benefit them. It's not that we don't give a fukk, it's all about what is being primed as the major issue. I also am wondering why people are going around pretending that we couldn't do this like I didn't just show that we can in that article.

Well why don't we go back to the 1700s and just abolish funding for public education alltogether. No vouchers, subsidies...nothing.

Let citizens invest in their own future. Let them start in Kindergarten. It builds character.

I wouldn't be surprised to find many libertarians saying this.

Also.....who will join the arm forces if US university education is free or the cost greatly reduced. Image how hard it would be to recruit soldiers without the promise of basically a free ride through a 4 year education.

You say this like it's a bad thing.

End all subsidies to the education industry in America. :yeshrug: There, i said it.
Agreed, but increase them for the oil industry! And don't forget our good friends at the military industrial complex!

Germany hasn't sent any support to haiti.
Katrina disaster was handled poorly. Even post-katrina stuff was bungled. Way too many trailers just left unused, that were meant for displaced residents.
FEMA is not controlled by the US military. Don't mix up agencies with different leaders.

Oh what, the US is the only country that sent support to Haiti now?

Germany: The German government has released an initial amount of €7.5 million (US$10.78 m) in aid.[161] Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said that his country had pledged aid to Haiti and called together a crisis management team to deal with the disaster.[162] Two special THW teams, one trained to rescue survivors from the rubble, and the other equipped to provide them with safe drinking water, were sent to Port-au-Prince.[163] Germany also offered to send troops to Haiti.[164]

And regarding Katrina, I don't care who does what (I'm sure people in NO didn't care either), if you can't handle shyt at home do go around parading breh.

Motives in this case are inconsequential(IMHO). To me what's important is the behavioral changes and systemic processes it creates.
By alleviating the need for strong national defense we free up resources for these nations to invest in other areas such as education and healthcare... and if you add in the cost of running the world when making comparisons, its amazing how close we are to them in those areas.

It's not like China or Russia is gonna attack Germany tomorrow breh. shyt, Russia attacked Ukraine and the US (as others) didn't do shyt, why? Because it's not in their interest.

EU countries have been investing less in military forces because threaths have changed. As we have seen time and time again, tanks and jet fighters aren't really winning any wars. We went from Mudjahidins to Talibans to Al-Qaida to the Islamist State...Hell one could argue that threaths posed to European security have increased because of the Bush BS (the only two Al-Qaida bombings happened in the UK and in Spain, two countries whose leaders were stupid enough to follow Bush in the 2003 Iraq invasion).
