i tried to avoid this shyt for months and now here i am 1 week away
i have no problem with her family but i hate family functions
gotta deal with the family members who want to know when you going on 1 knee
judgmental family members
gotta spit game with the uncles/cousin
gotta fake smile

Then don't go, if you really didn't want to go you would either tell her straight up you don't want to and than don't, what she go do drag a grown man to that shyt? Or just lie and say you have to work, go out or something on that same day. If you was smart with your lying you could've played it like you wanted to go initially when she told you about it months ago, then at the last minute tell her you can't then bunk out at a hotel or some shyt.

I have good and bad stories about family visits.

Bad.

I was seeing this girl, and I was cool with her female cousin. They would always tell me how much fun family functions were out in the country.

I'm always down for good food and drink. Long story short I show up and I'm the darkest person in the whole house. Not a big deal really, what really made it awkward was when her aunt showed up. It was her aunt who was like 3 yrs older than her. The aunt I used to bang 3 or 4 years before I met the girl I was currently dating.

Of course the aunt is the ranchet one in the family. She played me too, on some " Oh you ain't go speak??"

Aye since you entertained it, I'd just go there and act like I'm having a good time, one to make my girl happy than two so down the stretch later when she asks you to go to her next family function you can just have something else scheduled that same day without her knowing and tell her at the last minute you can't go, and if she asks if it's because you didn't like her family, you can just use the day you went and pretended to fukk with her family and be like "Bae, you know I love your family remember the last time I'd went we had a good time." And than if she ever mentioned one of her favorite family members to you, that's the perfect time to bring that nikka up and be like 'Me and your Uncle Freddy knocked it off last time'. Or you could just tell her straight up next time you don't want to go, tbh. Depends on her thresholds of tolerating bullshyt.

Relationships are give and take. Sometimes you gotta do some shyt you don't want to do. And then hopefully she'll go the extra mile when you need her to. Give and take

I've been in this situation many times with Wifey. I've done it all from being 100% "no I ain't going" from the jump (best method).

To fronting like I was down, then bailing at the last minute (that NEVER went over well as you can imagine). and everything in between.

I'ma just leave some unappreciation here...

• Pretending like I give a fukk about all the gottdamn small talk random family engages in.
• Having people remember my name, but I forget theirs...even after them telling me TWICE
• Holding court with the fellas, who don't follow basketball while the playoffs are happening.
• Being served a plate of hot gobbage passed off as food and having her favorite auntie ask me why I'm not eating that tripe.
• ...and don't ask me about my damn job 'cuz a nicca underemployed right now!
