Thanks fam, and I didnt mean for the statement to be read as a knock towards ghost. Thats just how highly I think of big.

Big's tracks were almost cinematic like. On songs like Suicidal tendencies, and warning his tight and simple, yet intricate at the same time, flow paints such flawless pictures that captivate, and put you right in the middle of the action. You can literally envision what hes talking about, which is aided by his HD clear voice.

Ghost is great, but if you listen to some of his tracks, his rhymes become unfocused and he loses his way. His abstract rhyming style is crazy dope, but sometimes I think it just becomes confusing and wayward. Again there are some things ghost does better, but big was in another galaxy as an overall rapper at his peak.

I hear you. Changing topics, I guess they don't smoke that shyt in San Diego either? Their second album is a personal classic to me. Hugely important album my freshman year of HS.

Prolly has a lot to do w/ the fact that Ghost's voice is so annoyingly high pitched and quirky, while Big sounded like a Quiet Storm 104.1 Jazz DJ, with the smoothness and richness in his voice.

I like Ghosts voice. He can convey a lot of emotion with his voice actually.

People didn't talk about who was the GOAT back then. People weren't legacy obsessed. It was about being the hottest at the moment, the top dog.
By the Source crowning him King of NY - that was among the highest praise a rapper could get. And it wasn't just The Source. The point is that a lot of people, certainly not all, thought BIG was the dominant force in the game almost immediately.

Exactly, Hip Hop was still a teenager by the time 90's rolled around. It was a young genre. People love to say Puffy started the GOAT talk. But the fact is it was LL Cool J and the Canibus Battle that started the Greatest of all time talk. When LL said "LL Cool J N!gga, Greatest of all Time" on 4,3,2,1 it was like a shift in the game. Before that, Rappers would call themselves the best or Gods like Rakim but Greatest Ever? There wasn't debate like that. Biggie was the 1st officially crowned King of New York and since NY was the mecca saying Big was King was basically saying Big ran Hip Hop.

Before that there wasn't a King of New York but looking back, KRS, Rakim, LL and Kane had that title before it was a title. But once LL said that and then named his album "GOAT" after that the debates went crazy about who's the Best EVER. Canibus threw Biggie's name in the ring with "2nd Round K.O." and the line has stood the test of time. Every march 9th the line is talked about. So Puffy didn't need to market Big as the Goat. Canibus did it for him and it just took off from there.

I am the biggest Biggie fan on Earth but to say Ghost isn't on his "tier" exposes you as a biased dikkrider or a person not familiar with his work. Ghost has put out nearly 20 years worth of A-list MC material and you got the gall to say he's not in the upper class of MC's? You sound stupid. For edification purposes some of ya'll need to go and actually listen to his albums and stop posting about shyt you're clearly unfamiliar with. One dude in here got the gall to say that Ghosts' voice doesn't allow him to take him seriously :comeon:

I think he means that BIG is a more legendary figure than Ghost. Both are A List. But the biggies and pacs are the biggies and pacs if you know what I mean.

Great point about LL and Canibus. Funny how nobody gives a shyt about that battle now but it birthed the term GOAT and saw the date of Bigs death immortalized.

Pun and Big L only dropped 2 LP's but are they in Goat discussions like Big? So it takes more than Death.

Big dropped 2 Classics, was on a ton of great collabos, put on one of the greatest female emcees ever on, Put the East on his back and made them relevant again commercially

As far as at the time, by the time "Ready To Die" dropped, Biggie ran New York. Were there emcees happy about it? Of course not but Big was still King. Rae and Ghost both dropped Classics but they were never bigger than Big at anytime after "Ready To Die" dropped. When the Source said Big was the King of NY that was back when they had creditibility, back when fans called them the Hip Hop Bible. At this point the debate seems to be about quantity not quality as Every time I read "So and So is better than Biggie" the "Only 2 albums" is brought up it's like the only debate anyone has cause they can't talk about his skills.

Big pun and Big l weren't involved in a coastal beef with the most talked about rapper, bad comparison. Big had the machine behind him just like Pac did.

Ghost put out 2 classics, and other dope albums, his wu group work, etc. Been around for years and his worst album isn't wack.

Ghost has quality and quanity.

My bad fam - thought your screen name was a reference to RBL Posse. They had a famous song where the hook was "Don't give me no Bammer weed, we don't smoke that shyt in the SFC"

Hell yeah thats where I got my screen name from (it was one of the first hiphop songs I ever heard, and my dad said i used to bob to the beat like crazy as a shorty), and you fckin A right I live by that motto out here in Cali, although I dont smoke like I used to as an undergrad a couple of years ago. I never really fcked with RBL heavy but I did mess with that bluebird track mucho. Good sht!

Yep. LL didn't even argue it with Canibus saying Big was the GOAT for 2 years. He just turn around and named his album that, lol cause he started to notice the Biggie line gaining traction. Funny it's probably Canibus most memorable bar now. Fans again debated who was best. But "BEST EVER or ALL TIME" that's a new concept that happen in the late 90's ironically after Pac and Big died. So when people say, "Nobody was calling Pac and Biggie GOAT when they were alive" isn't looking at the fact nobody was being called the GOAT back then. But Pac was the King of the West cause Dre left Death Row, Snoop and Warren G fell off. Big was the King of NY. While Biggie was alive, only LL and NaS moved major units for NY with "Mr. Smith" and "It Was Written". Ironically the only other New Yorkers selling were Wu members with Rea going Gold, Meth going Plat, Ghostface going Gold and Ol Dirty going Gold. As well as Jay going Gold and Redman going Gold. Biggie went Multi-Platinum making him the top rapper in NY at the time.

(LL Cool J created the acronym GOAT that is a major part of Hip Hop debates till this day.)

Wu Tang 93-97 (During Biggie's Reign)

36 Chambers 93'
Tical 94'
Enter the 36 Chambers 95'
Only Built For Cuban Linx 95'
Liquid Swords 95'
Iron Man 96'
Wu Tang Forever 97'

I don't think we will ever see a run like this for a Rap Group ever. So don't get it twisted, I'm a Wu head like anyone else who a "Trapped in the 90's n!gga" but if we are talking solo career, Big was bigger individually than any Wu Member. Only Meth was close to matching his popularity mostly thanks to Puffy Remixing "All I Need" during that time but even then Meth wasn't Bigger than Biggie after "Ready To Die" dropped.

I understand that, but I don't think that the OP is trying to insinuate that Ghost is an iconic figure like Big and Pac. He's not. He never sold like they have, had the impact on the game (solo wise) as they had and never grabbed the mainstreams attention like they did. But Ghost isn't that type of artist and never will be. But in terms of MC'ing, he's in hip hops avant-garde. Top tier MC. He's up there with the best. Classic verses. Classic albums. Creativity out the ass. Member of raps greatest group. Major league storytelling ability. Ghost is as quality an MC as you can get. Listen, for most of my adult life I believed Biggie was the greatest MC ever and that there never would be an MC as good as he is, but Ghostface and Nas have created too many quality verses since Big's death to say that Big is better than either one. Too many. Biggie was a rap God on the mic for like 3 or 4 years, Ghostface has been one for damn near 20 years. nikkas gotta stop with the bullshyt and take a more cerebral look at it. Ghost is probably gonna drop at least two more albums full of quality verses just this year alone! Stop treating the God like he's some run of the mill MC who shouldn't be in the same sentence as the greats.

See, you're opinions on this should be largely dismissed because you're in here arguing about "popularity" and record sales and all type of irrelevant shyt. Most dudes in here should've realized that you're not knowledgeable on Ghostface as an MC and his solo work when you claimed that he falls some where between 25-50 of raps best ever. Ludicrous statement.

That's right Danie, and look how LOOOOOOOOONG ago that was. He's since made at least two more classic albums after that and countless more unbelievable verses. The God still dropping quality verses like it ain't shyt. Peep this random verse on INS' Czarface track:

The God went apeshyt on that :mindblown:
