Andrew Dawson only has a co-production credit on MBDTF. I’ve scoured and if I asked you I don’t believe you could provide me with a rap beat he solely produced. No disrespect at all but I’m skeptical that he’s capable of beats this caliber based on what amounts to gossip. On that very same album Ye has sole credit on amazing beats and obviously with his documented talent and history of crediting (again, generous) it’s easier for me to believe he contributed more than AD tbh.AD has been in multiple magazines talking about his input, for years. On the older and newer projects, I've heard people say what he's done on them. Just because dude looks like a weirdo, doesn't mean he should be dismissed for his work.
Don Cannon wasn't even credited when Pusha's joint came out. Kanye was credited as producing it. Don had to go around and tell people it was his beat, and that he didn't co-produce anything. I didn't say AD produced the whole album for Pusha, He did a few joints on there. But we all know when the album dropped, Ye was being credited as producing the whole joint himself. Kanye is doing the same shyt Swizz did on the last X album. He's taking whole tracks from other producers, and crediting the actual producer as a "co-producer", while not doing a thing on the beat.
I've been in the business since I was a kid. This is basically how they market shyt now. Take the bigger name, say they carried the production, and then eventually credit the actual producer. 88 Keys is my guy. Has been forever. He got the beat for "Numbers on the Boards" from Don Cannon. The full beat. He threw the talking part on it, after he got the track in. Kanye said to add the Hov clip, and when the track came out, he was listed as the producer, lol. He's been doing this same shyt for years, with different producers.
He was definitely credited even if “Kanye produced” was headlined. Also what you described is textbook add production which is what they’re credited for.
Pusha T - Numbers On The Boards (Prod. By Don Cannon & Kanye West)
The Georgia rapper described an instance during the recording of Yeezus. While Kanye was in the studio, a man walked in with leather black jeans on, which resulted in the "Black Skinhead" lyrics: "For my theme song/My leather black jeans on/ My by any means on."
The man who walked in with the leather pants ended up getting a cut.
"If you’re delivering waters, if you’re the engineer, if you’re the cameraman, if he ask you one thing about this song, you’re name is on this record," he said. "All you got to do is be in the brainstorming. If you were in the brainstorm room, you get part of the record."
