So if Wu-Tang released an album on par with 36 Chambers and in that style you would say it was outdated and hate on it?

Those tracks he has stashed will have been stashed for a reason. And their key demographic will eat them up. That’s for sure.
Wu-Tang Clan released A Better Tomorrow in 2014. That is 10 years ago. A decade. That was a mostly TERRIBLE album. And you’re talking about 36 Chambers? Get with reality, buddy. Stop living in the past. That ship has sailed long long ago :mjtf:

You don’t seem to be understanding the argument :hhh:

I refuse to believe Ghost has an album worth of material kept in the vault for 17 years ear marked for this one album. He would've dropped it a loooooong time ago.

I don't see the point in doing a sequel for this album. A lot of people see the original as the one of the most influential underground rap albums ever and the official second wind of Wu Tang. It brought in a whole sound that was super influential. The lyrics and styles on display were like nothing else at the time. You can't just recreate that energy over 20 years later

If it's not going to do a fraction of those things in 2024, what's the point in calling it that?

It's a cheap marketing tool that all the rappers have been hopping on.

No one has been able to make anything as dope as their signature classic, but they all want to attach the greatness of their standout album to the "sequel". It hasn't worked for one rapper yet. I still think it's corny to go with the whole "part two" thing.

I agree with you completely, even though I think Rae did a good job with CL2. That was still 15 years ago and a lot has changed since then

Not even close.

And Nas didn't call it Illmatic 2.

Nothing in his catalogue comes close to Illmatic. IWW is the closest.
Opinions vary on this. It's definitely a classic.

Thought it was pretty obvious this is meant as a sequel, hence the Stillmatic. He doesn't have to name it Illmatic2 to make that point clear.

Stillmatic intro, Ether, Get Urself A Gun, You're Da Man, What Comes Around, Rewind, One Mic, Destroy & Rebuild. Don't know man, some great music on that album....

I know King's Disease doesn't have the same status as Illmatic or Supreme Clientele, but Nas topped it twice. Also, Magic 3 is arguably better than Magic.

:manny:Illmatic had the larger impact that can't be denied, but one could argue that IWW is better, plus Nas had advanced even more as an emcee:myman:

I agree that Nas was definitely a better MC by '96, but IWW was nowhere near the level of Illmatic.

Maybe if that's someone's first Nas album, it could be a sentimental thing. But IWW didn't have the impact or level of perfection that Illmatic had. Everything stopped in Hip Hop when Illmatic dropped. It literally changed the course of the culture. IWW is a classic, and I copped it the first day it came out, but it wasn't even in the same zip code as Illmatic, in terms of quality.

You're not gonna make a better album than Premier, Q-Tip, Pete Rock and Large Pro in their prime, with '96 Trackmasters, lol. That sh*t is impossible.
