As long as Jon Horst has been the GM, he really hasn't stood pat in the seasons leading up to and after the championship. For better or worse, he's probably been as active as you can be with transactions. That's how we got to where we are. When he's done here, his legacy will probably oscillate between whatever results we get from the Dame deal, hiring Adrian Griffin (which wasted a year of Dame/Giannis), and "mortgaging" the future via draft capital for a title. In my estimation, the latter is really what matters because we didn't win one for 50 years.
Ultimately, he flipped Eric Bledsoe for Jrue Holiday, which ultimately led to Dame being here. The latter is arguably the biggest trade in franchise history. Plus he's always attempted to tinker on the margins. This season it was Taurean Prince, Delon Wright and Gary Trent. Past seasons, it was guys like Malik Beasley, George Hill, Jae Crowder, Pat Bev or Jevon Carter. Sometimes, those bench/role player pickups work and sometimes, they don't. While I think his drafting is suspect, some of our role players are young, reasonably priced guys they developed like Andre Jackson and AJ Green. Coming into next year, as much as real fans hate to see Khris leave, we have some cap flexibility. Brook's off the books, too. Are we gonna see a Dame-level deal again? I'd be surprised. But I'd be just as surprised if they ran the same team back.
