I get that, I just want someone from GM to show the hard numbers to justify building new electric facilities vs repurposing old ones.

I would venture to guess that the true reason for the shutdowns is to dump old salaries and hire fresh young cheap people

I don't blame Trump directly. I blame the corporate profit obsessed mentality....which happens to be a hallmark of the right

There can be a balance between profit/people that would be more beneficial to society. The right fails to grasp the humanity side of it.

I think Governments should be able to distinguish between corporate blackmail of the "give us money or we will close" because once a firm is being sustained by that type of strategy there is a guarantee they will pocket the money and run. In 3rd world countries they will ask for a tax holiday and just up sticks and move after it elapses.

The $1B in Steel tariffs that GM has to pay clearly had no influence on the decision to cut the factories out now. Was this decision likely on the cards for GM to make since they haven't recovered from the Sedan market collapsing? Sure, but you have to be a certified sucka to think that $1B out of a $3.5B staggering blow didn't contribute to that in any way.
