Only thing that interests me is Daydream and the Axon 7 has that and is only $400. I'll wait to see if Daydream runs well on the 6P.

Google also messed up for the fact that this aint ios where there is only one show in town. Android is Android and you have tons of manufacturers making capable devices for sub 500 bucks. So at the prices they selling you wint even get many techies who just wanna cop for the hell of it buying it.

My thoughts exactly. It makes me wonder what their end goal is. Don't see how they will make a dent with Samsung having such a lead in the premium phone arena on the Android side.

I think Google wants to do those things but keep the price of the phone a bit lower then Apple and the others but that's gonna be hard to do.. All those things that you mentioned would make the phone be more expensive. That's why I'm not sure if this is gonna be a worthwhile investment for Google.

If would make sense if they were undercutting the competition, but if they're charging virtually the same price as Samsung and Apple without some of those features, it doesn't really sound like a worthwhile endeavor like you said.

My iPhone and my Note have 256 GBs of storage. I might have gotten a Pixel to play around with but it cost too much and it's lacking standard features like water resistance and optical imaging stabilization. Also I'm not buying an Android phone without expandable storage.

There's no reason to get a Pixel when OEMs have better offerings for less.

I'm not understanding the real need for water resistance and there is optical image stabilization - it was actually an entire demo during the presentation.

I can absolutely understand people not wanting to pay the price tag but some of the complaints I've seen are strange.

Google is trying to become less dependent on Samsung in the premium phone market. Also, Google needs to get their hardware side of thing right if it wants to (successfully) integrate all the software offerings it has out now and in the pipeline. For years people have hated on the Nexus phone for its weak camera, and now that they put a premium one in their phone, people hating on the price.

I'm all for Google taking charge in the hardware space to push Vanilla Android forward while Samsung continues to load phones with bloat and flirt with Tizen OS.

Besides, there are already tons of Android devices that are near premium with lower prices. Why crowd that market with another one?

Google going away from being dependent on one handset maker absolutely makes sense. They should have done this from the beginning with the Nexus series instead of treating it like niche enthusiast devices for most of its lifetime.

My observation about the price wasn't hating at all. It actually had nothing to do with the quality of the device (I wasn't getting one anyway), but the space where it's competing. They just put out a device that is supposed to compete with the Galaxy/Note/iPhone and charge the same price with no foothold in the industry. Anyone who is paying attention would wonder if the risk is worth the potential reward of jumping in that premium arena. Unlike the Nexus series, it seems like they actually want to make a real profit from this, which requires actual sales.

Where is my pixel tablet tho? I heard about a Chromebook pixel 3 that has the flippable screen.

Might have to drop money on that right there

The Pixel phone is exactly what we wanted, so of course we’re unhappy

Interesting take on the Pixel. Basically a perfect android offering to counter the perfect combo that iPhone's offer, but android users are still complaining.
What's ironic is this is spot on but comes from the The Verge (an Apple biased publication).

The Pixel is exactly what people have been asking for of an Android device for a couple years now and it's as if people are looking for reasons to not want it though they've never actually seen it in person or used it.

The rumors where a late year reveal and a 1Q release of a new Chromebook device running the new Android/ChromeOS hybrid.

I was expecting some type of hint of this new OS yesterday but nothing was mentioned.

Axon 7 is a beast phone for the price...but if someone is obsessed with pure Android they are just gonna have to pony up that extra 300. Lol.
