Yeah I would have held out. If DACA is this important, and I see it is, then you make sure those kids stay. Trump won't sign any deal for amnesty and Mitch is a goofball and dishonest. Everyone says were resisting but I see rolling over for Donald.

how long would you have held out?
what would you do when after holding out for weeks/months the repubs still havent budged?
hold out more?

You can't argue that this gov't shutdown is not about DACA and then argue that you have to hold out for DACA.

i absolutely want to save DACA
the wall [the big beautiful wall from sea to shining sea] is NEVER going to be built]

shutting down the government for a month or more and all the people that would be affected by that
the billions of dollars that it would cost

would not help DACA kids. if anything it would turn people against the DACA kids.

would your family be one of the families starving during a month long shutdown?
would your kid be one of the kids that still didnt have CHIP?
i could go on but

no need for me to

ETA you should run for office
send me a link when you get your campaign up and running and i will donate

House Spending Bill Changes Law to Let Trump Administration Secretly Shift Intelligence Money

THE HOUSE SPENDING bill released Wednesday would allow President Donald Trump, or people under him, to secretly shift money to fund intelligence programs, a break with 70 years of governing tradition.

Since 1947, section 504 of the National Security Act has mandated that the administration inform Congress if it intends to shift money from one intelligence project to another, if the new project has not been authorized by Congress. That notification can be — and almost always is — done in secret, but it is at least a minimal check on executive power.

The spending bill currently under consideration, known as a continuing resolution, or CR, breaks with that tradition, allowing funds to “be obligated and expended notwithstanding section 504(a)(1) of the National Security Act of 1947.”

Why was CHIP part of the govt spending bill again? Why didn’t they just put out a clean CHIP bill with the majority? I haven’t been able to get 1 Republican voter or Trump supporter to answer this question.
This is, like, one of the most dispicable things I have seen, @DEAD7 i know you are a repub/libertarian, why do you figure the Republicans held CHIP “hostage”? I am genuinely confused :dahell:
From what i understand it was a disagreement over where funding was going to come from that started these embarrassing shenanigans.
I havent seen/heard of anyone on either side against the program itself.

In the fall, Republicans proposed a spending plan with five years of CHIP funding. But Democrats who support CHIP resisted because GOP lawmakers wanted to pay for the extension through spending cuts, including to the ACA and Medicare.

For nearly five months, lawmakers of both parties rued that CHIP's budget had lapsed, with each side trying to claim the high ground in urging their colleagues to restore the funding.
I dont think anything(save military spending) is safe in this political climate.:wow:

That's a terrible fukkn article.

The 5 years of chip funding was recommended by MedPAC in the spring of 2017. Republicans ain't reinvent the wheel.

First off, CHIP was up for reauthorization in 2018, because it was up for reauthorization in 2017, because it wasn't reauthorized in 2015 because Republicans wanted to use it as leverage to cut funding from government programs.

The Senate Finance bill cut funding by 23percent to pre-ACA levels.

The House bill cut medicare funds, pulled public health funds, and tried required any CHIP funds to offset with Puerto Rico hurricane relief funds.

fukk out of here. We have a whole CHIP thread detailing these events.

i understand people being upset,
but what exactly other than a promise of a vote does anyone think the dems were gonna get out of this?
aside from a prolonged shutdown?

serious question

come feb 8th if they dont get the vote they can shut shyt down for however the fukk long
and red state dems better shut the fukk up and roll with the crew
its on the repubs to fufill their promise
People really can't get into war mode. People really can't be bothered to look at the bigger picture.

'Oh my! They didn't do every single thing I wanted them to do every single second of the day so they suck!'

What really kills me is they're quick to point out the right having a majority.

It's war, folks! I can't stress it enough because people still think it's a game. Better back your soldiers or lose.

The right backs their soldiers. Why can't we? And the even bigger and more important long term hurdle is midterms 2018. Why are we on the left so flaky? Back your soldiers or lose the war!

And we didn't even walk away empty handed! I get it 45 is trash but this lackluster support for the left isn't gonna accomplish anything except give him more gas.

We're still on this 'our politics need to be perfect' wave. Disgusting.

Thanks to everyone who is sticking by your fighters. It's okay to want to hold your politician's feet to the fire BUT don't we have bigger fish to fry at the moment? Don't we? Wake up!
