I feel the Gretzky and Jordan are the GOAT in their respective sports though.
Hockey and basketball have a different length regular season and different number of games played in a season. Stats on paper don't line up. You have goals and assists in hockey and in basketball, you have your free throw 1 point goals, and 2 point field goals and 3-pointers. Defensive stats are recorded differently too. Gretzky went pro straight from junior hockey. Jordan went to college after high school and then went pro.
If you watched them play in their prime, each was a game changer in their sport.
Jordan label is a cash cow with Nike. Gretzky put his name on a lot of things that sold well.
Both have not been as successful in their respective sports in management roles of a professional team.
