This is like comparing Nas to Rakim or Kool G Rap. Nas would've probably agreed with him too , just off GangStarr alone.

Ehhhh....

This is an odd comparison because Nas is light years ahead of Guru at rapping but Guru had the benefit of 90% of the time working with one of the best producers in history.

You very rarely hear people (I mean our age) quote Guru bars, it's more the whole package of him saying whatever (not wack, but also nothing mind blowing most of the time) and Primo beats.

So even if I could agree with this statement, it's only partially due to Guru. If it was Gangstarr vs Nas that would make a hell of a lot more sense, because a decent chunk of that package is Premier.

Nonsense.

My whole schoolbus used to quote Ex to the Next and DWYCK word for word at the top of our lungs and his quotes are probably scratched into more hip hop records than anyone.

We loved them both, Premo got more popular as he began to branch off and make beats for other people but we always loved Guru.

Always someone saying "_____________ than Nas"

It's the new wave. Say some flagrant shyt to anger online rap fans to force engagement. Just like that 22 year old who said Jim Jones has more hits than Nas.

Obviously back then, I mean now. When people our age talk about quoteables Guru is rarely if ever mentioned outside of a couple bars.

Nor is he ever in any GOAT discussions. The sole reason his catalog could potentially stand up to Nas, is if you take into account Premier. Which is why I said the wording is weird.

Oh, I thought you was buggin.

Yeah, I feel you but I think that’s because how his shyt ended not because of his impact.

The Solar shyt and Gangstarr not having a chance to go out on a high note.

I’m glad this thread was made because he needs to be placed back in his proper position.

No man, it's Gangstarr. :mjlol:

Their sh*t was huge back then. To us I mean. I don't think anyone in their right mind would argue otherwise.

What's crazy is I completely forgot about the Solar sh*t. And yeah, you're probably right. Guru ended poorly and Nas is still rapping. That alone might nudge people to pick Nas.

I forgot about it too until this thread.

I purposely delete it from memory and will attempt to again once this thread loses steam.

That was a very traumatic time for me.

It's always Jay and Big, and funnily enough it's always Nas fans leading the charge. If both those greats can be criticized, then so can Nas. It's no like it's a wild statement either. Nas doesn't have a stretch in catalog fukking with Guru's Step In The Arena to Moment of Truth run. He embodied that level of consistency that Nas was sorely missing, especially during the 00s.
All I see is Jay "dwyck"licking lol however I don't have a problem it was an observation.

People can like whoever...I like a lot of music...Guru and Gangstar amongst them.

Peace
