Her is the Angela winbush of her generation. Can sing, play multiple instruments, write her own songs and will never be as popular as her peers that only do 1 of the 3. The thing about Her is that she has longevity and will be around for a long time. These other females are only as good as their next song writers or producers.
I think everyone mentioned in this thread writes their own music

Tiara Thomas(Wale -Bad) writes for HER a lot as well
A lot of artists are doing that downtempo "thot r&b" yet not all of them are selling. In fact most aren't. When you look at the numbers, SZA was the main one who had massive success - going plat plus multiple hit records that went plat. Nobody really came close to that. Now Summer Walker is here and people are looking around wondering what happened, "how can my artist do the same." I can't explain how one chick connects and another doesn't. But I'd imagine HER's image (or lack thereof) hurts. These chicks want to see you. They want to see you tweet about heartbreak, they want to see your IG posts without makeup on, etc. These chicks are living vicariously through these singers and you can't do that when a chick isn't showing her face, isn't dressing "hot," etc.

:yeshrug:

i really do think the age part of this is a big difference between her and the other mainstream females

she turned 21 this year. I think she would be uncomfortable interacting with people older than her since the music is so mature

Once she got a hit with Focus On Me, she kept making that same song over and over.
She's gonna have to grab her nuts and do all that shyt she does on stage in the studio.
She wanna thump the bass and play funky guitar on stage but then sing over a drum machine, synth pad, and reverb in the booth.
Gotta step it up

I put her in that class of "should be bigger" along with Jeremih. Hell, Jeremih barely even has a presence on social media, but I guess he's doing well, writing for other people.

Jeremih one of those artists that no one has a problem with but not many people actively checking for but at the same time you'll end up listening to him on a song anyway cause he got hits/featured on hits. If that makes sense...

Lorine Chia is one of the contemporary female R&B artists that is right there at the cusp at mini-superstardom or more success.

I fuuck with her voice and sound. She's Cameroonian and has that Erykah Badu/Jill Scott/Chrisette Michele hybrid voice.

She's early 20s.

She's cute and smashable, just not "sexy" like that. She has classy or bohemian/grungy sex appeal. Not talking her dark skin or hair, just missing the "it" factor, Unfortunately...it makes a difference. Just my opinion.

I like her vibe just the way it is, cause it matches her voice and sound. The music is cool, introspective, and sexy, but the "it" factor is missing.

Even big boned Lizzo exudes sexiness.

I can tell her team is trying because her last video had her in the bed trying to be sexy. I hope she gets some connection with wider audiences and some hits....

Hopefully some high caliber lyricists and R&B singers see she has great potential and feature or work with her.

The Game likes her voice

She has some dope solo tracks

I can actually hear them :wow: Get me hip breh :feedme:

but Joe Budden told me she was incredible

:francis:

Avenue got a decent amount of play because it slipped nicely into a playlist I made but eh.
talent is there but her music doesn't do much for me. actually, that I Used To Know HER is bland garbage.

MihTy is my sh!t.. :stylin:

you just reminded me of that album. what a disappointment.

two great artists and not one classic song came out of it.
album should have been great but they Yung Berg get his hands on it and made a dud.
